A scenario I was thinking about...

Interesting theory, but I don't think so. She finds her daughter dead and AUTOMATICALLY suspects her husband:confused: The first thing that happens when one finds someone murdered, I suspect would be SHOCK, not pointing the finger and being suspicious unless in domestic violence cases where there was a history of the victim being abused by their spouse/lover.

I think she would have had to have reason to believe he would murder her in the past...

I don't actually believe that my theory is what happened (although it would make one heck of a play or movie!).

I do know that people do incredibly stupid things in emergencies or under sudden stress. For instance, my sister, an MD Ph.D who is normally the most level headed of people, was away at a vacation house alone when she had a stove fire. Her first reaction was to call home and ask Mom what to do!!! We've never let her forget that one, of course.

Another possibility is that John immediately suspected Patsy and Patsy immediately suspected Burke. Independent attempts at coverup ensue, then they're stuck with the results.

I'm reminded of an incident recounted in one of John Douglas's books, of a fellow FBI agent and profiler who was shot in a hotel room by intruders who had been hired by his wife (it came out later). Here's a highly trained FBI agent with extensive experience in investigating murder scenes. He was knocked unconscious by the shots, then came to some time later. Did he try to preserve the scene? Nope, he staggered around doing unnecessary things like turning off the TV, potentially muddying the evidence.

Unfortunately, I have come to believe that there is no such thing as a human being so intelligent that they don't do stupid things on occasion (usually stressful occasions).
