A video that will melt even the coldest heart

I hope there is a special place in hell for that trainer from the first video!

Maybe I don't want to watch that video when I get home...

The one I posted is about two elephants that were reunited after being apart for 22 years. They immediately recognized each other and began touching each others faces with the trunks and walking around with their trunks entwined.

ETA: I watched it several years ago and I didn't watch it again before posting, if it contains scenes of animal cruelty, I apologize.

Thanks for the warning. I'm not going to open those links. I CANNOT stand animal cruelty. Anyone who is cruel to an animal needs to be strung up by their toes (or other parts) and be left for dead somewhere where no one will ever find them again. I have more compassion for animals than I do for alot of humans.

ETA - many years ago there was a case of animal cruely on our local news. I can't even type out what it was. It's stayed with me all these years and I still get choked up thinking about it. It was senseless and just done as revenge to someone. There is also a thread here on WS from years ago that I still think about. It was children killing a puppy. That single thread caused me to stay gone from here for many months. I still tear up thinking about it.

DEATH TO ANIMAL ABUSERS

Sorry, I can't watch the elephant video. As soon as he started yelling at the terrified elephant, I had to turn it off. I guess I have a weak stomach.

Ember you probably do not but the end of the video is heartwarming.

I am so disgusted with how circus animals are treated that I have never taken my children to a circus.
Although I understand the interest in seeing these animals up close I am very apposed to animals being held in captivity *unless* there is a good reason.
(For our mere entertainment is not a good reason)

My apologies to all. I'm taking the video down. Stupid for me to post without re-watching it. Sorry.

We also do not go to circuses because of stories we have heard about animal cruelty.

We do go to zoos, however. I've never really thought about a zoo as being a bad place for an animal, especially one born in captivity. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Your heart was in the right place!

Glad I wasn't able to see it at work.

I'm like you NewMom, I can't stand to see animals mistreated and it would have haunted me.
And, I'm with you Am, I think what they do to circus animals is cruel and uncalled for. I went one time with my children and could never go back after seeing the look in the eyes of the elephant. It looked so sad.....that stuck with me for quite some time.

NOPE I do not think your wrong. I have taken mine to zoo's as well .. And most have wonderful habitats..
Most notable ... Lion Country Safari in Palm Beach (except for the Elephants)
The Metro Zoo in Miami/Dade County has very nice exhibits. At last check they were very spacious!
My favorite exhibit was the ground hogs at Lion Country Safari... It was a replica of a natural environment ...
However, I do think that animals should only be bread in captivity if they are at risk for extinction.

XcomSquaddie why would you remove the links??
I think it was a heartwarming story and people should be aware of what captive animals endure.

Don't want to offend or upset anyone. I did leave the link to the story, just not the youtube video.

My favorite zoo so far has been the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. It has an awesome indoor rainforest.

Please put it back .. The offensive part was the trainer NOT you posting it.
Besides the end was really sweet!
How the one Elephant (jenny?) opened the gate to visit the other..

If the link is upsetting its not your fault. Its the fault of people who treat animals that way.
Maybe being aware is the way to avoid it in the future?

That's right Am...no good comes of sticking our heads in the sand. Awareness and outrage are the catalyst for change!
Besides, it's still available in my quote from that post ;)

We knew you meant no harm Xcom! It's OK! :blowkiss:

Oh, that video was so sweet. What a wonderful bond between them.

We have a little "zoo" here in Folsom that is really a sanctuary for injured and rescued wild animals. All of the animals were rescued from abusive owners, rejected by other zoos, or were found injured in the wild and would not be able to survive outside of captivity. The original keeper of the zoo, a park worker, began it rather inadvertantly with an orphaned deer and then two orphaned mountain lion cubs. It was amazing to see him interact with the mountain lions. When they were full grown, they would get up on the hind legs and hug him, and try to gently get treats out of his shirt pocket. They truly cared for him. They also had an injured bear and when she and the male burn victim bear had cubs, she would let the keeper take her cubs from the den daily to weigh them. She trusted him with her babies.

When I heard, "don't touch him, hurt him", I immediately clicked out. I don't think the video needs to be removed. It's the trainer that needs removing from ever working w/ animals again.

I loved that video, thanks for posting it. It made me cry. I think I relate to animals more than I do people sometimes.

I cannot understand how a human being could be cruel to any animal. If they can show pain and fear then they can love and feel joy. Maybe not in the same sense as we can, but they do.

xcom....... oh my god, THANK YOU for posting the elephant video.. i lost it when i first saw the PBS special on them on TV a few years ago... and actually that led me to find it on youtube.. it makes me bawl my eyes out still.
mr E.... PLEASE watch these 2 videos.. they are actually pretty short (not the length of an entire TV show).. you absolutely MUST see the part where they are holding each other with their trunks and gently touching each others' faces. it is unbelievable.

I saw it way back when on PBS, too.

Thanks for posting the videos again. I choked up trying to explain the story to my husband. I'm gonna send him the links so he can be more properly sad.

It shows just how intelligent elephants are.

I couldn't get that video link to work with the lion, so I went to you tube and watched it there...

OMG...how sweet was that? I have always told my husband (who is rather dim when it comes to all things animals) that animals really do have feelings. They can show happiness, sadness -- they get depressed, fearful, anxious, etc.

It is rather sad how the majority of animals are treated on this planet. I have always had a rule of thumb when dating -- if my cat liked my boyfriend(s) at the time, then I knew they were good people. Even though my husband doesn't go all ga ga over animals as I do, they still love him. I just don't trust a human if my animals don't like them -- to me, animals are so keenly in tune with nature and humans. They just KNOW when something isn't right...jmho, though...
