a view from the inside: observations from our own court observers #8

I need one too....

I lost my mother 11 years ago. I feel your pain chijojo. It does get easier in time. I went for a long time that I cried daily. Now it only happens at moments that I wish I had her near, like when my children graduated first high school then college. I am particularly feeling the loss now because my daughter is getting married in June. She and my mother had a special bond. I see my mother in my daughter in so many ways and my daughter is feeling the loss now. I know that on the wedding day, some of my tears will be for Mom, but I know she would be so proud of the woman my daughter has become and would be pleased with her choice of a husband. It well be hard for my father as well, but he is performing the wedding, so will be kept busy.

Maybe all of us motherless children can just be mothers to each other.

I've been out of town fOr nine days and falling asleep to trial video, but I swore I heard ALv say something about not having a retirement just before JM objected and was sustained. I need to re- watch it, but my impression was that if the jury received it as I did, then they concluded this was all about money for ALV. It didn't go unnoticed that she used the state paid evaluation of Jodi to attend her daughters wedding.

I just had a moment to check the thread and am devastated about Poquito Mas. So sad.

Thank you to all of our courtroom observers. Don't get burnt out. We should be your last priority. We support that. Thank you for your candor in expressing your needs. We honor all of you.
Sorry...,Imammcatching up with the reading... So I apologize for this post landing in possibly an awkward place...

But This is the first I remember of hearing that ALV used state funds to attend a wedding of her daughter...

:what:

If ALV is having an issue with panic attacks she should not be accepting jobs that put her under so much stress. It's interesting that she didn't see testifying in a case that involved a DP as a major stressor to avoid but has an attack when her credibility is called into question. She can "read into" text messages and IM's that are written by other people but can't see the possible rammifications of her own actions. MOO

I like this.

Her inability to "handle" the stress is because she had so much confidence in her ability to use this situation for her own needs (book, retirement fund, etc.) that she blinded herself to the gravity and seriousness of the situation as well as the passion and ability of the people involved. Her lack of true humility paved the way for her public humiliation, and frankly, ridicule.

Her head is exploding because all the professional "tricks" she uses to handle court ordered abusive men are utterly useless against a person with true personal power (Martinez) and a system designed to ignore manipulative tactics (I know this last point can be argued).

KCL noted in her ALV post that AVL walked into the sociopaths web willingly. I will add that her narcissistic arrogance blinded her to the reality of the situation, and her own JA like self importance made her think she was going to take these suckers for a ride.

Her and Samuels were great examples of how NOT to handle yourself as an expert witness. Both of them appeared clownish, insubstantial, and amateurish when required to defend their methods, actions, and conclusions.

Interesting that they are both in the twilight years of their careers and this case will forever impact who they are and what they do.

I guess I could have made a much more concise post by saying AVL seriously overestimated her own abilities and seriously underestimated the prosecutors'.

Now what kind of personality is characterized by those traits?

I don't think that was what she said. I think what she was saying is that her daughter was getting married and while she was there in the area she also saw Jodi. So it's not clear if she charged the State for the trip or just for the time she spent with Jodi. ALV mentioned her daughter getting married in August, I believe, so it would be very easy for the State to check that out.

KCL- If you are ever in the Chicago area please stay at my house! I would love to show you the city and treat you like family while you are here! I am serious!

This is stunning to me - that she would lie on the stand to try to appear more current on her education! I believe it was intentional - earning your masters degree is one of life's greater moments for most people - I am sure 99% of people could tell you EXACTLY when they earned their masters degree.

idk if she lied in court, or if she lied on her alumni bio so it didn't look like it took her so many years to finish her education, but i think it might be the latter - imo - plus jm would have nailed her on that pretty quickly i bet, like the key note speaker thing

Hi Smeck! I live in Chicago too! I am on the North side near Old Irving. Are you in the city?

And Juan thought it worthwhile to bring it up Friday. Something like, and this is a broad paraphrase, M'am, you used your education to help you with these questions, right? And she said markedly that she used her "experience." Objection from DT. Sidebar. JM drops the subject. There's something extra hinky in her CV, for JM to bother with it in jury-question follow up. MOO! Sorry for OT!
 :liar:

Interesting. Perhaps there is more than one inflated claim on her CV that Juan is aware of. Could this be the issue that will be dealt with Monday or Tuesday?

Boy, the little gain she got by inflating her CV is nothing compared to the trouble it's brought her. "Little white lies" do count. If someone is willing to lie to you about small things, they will surely lie about large ones.

OMG I reference Downton Abbey and look who appears! Missed ya! :seeya:

The news source who did the original autograph signing story did a followup story. She says she waited until after the jurors had left before rolling cameras and calls out HLN for their misrepresentation of the original story and their shoddy reporting. Hope Juan can call this reporter in the upcoming hearing.

:great: You made my day - thank you!!!!!!!! :great:

Juror 11 - What day was it one of the juror's asked if court could start late? Could it be he went to doctor and found out something or maybe he had scheduled medical procedure and was advised medically not to put it off? Whatever it is, I hope he is okay - he deserves nothing but the best for having served on this nightmare of a case!

Is it Monday yet? Better yet, is it Tuesday?

Her "little" white lies on her CV will come back to haunt her. AND who brings their "daddy" to court and gives them an acknowledgement in a murder trial.....and her childhood friends.....errrrrr. Who does that??? :furious:
Somehow I missed this. When was her family in the gallery? And she mentioned it while on the stand? TY in advance!

He was there one day last week. Appeared to be a nice elderly fellow. And yes she mentioned it on the stand when a juror question came in questioning her bias against men.

She could have scored (perhaps) herself a FEW points if she had been meek and mild in her answers to Juan. Might have brought her a bit of compassion that a mean old Prosecutor was beating down the frail little murderer.....Nah

Agree 100%. We all saw from the start that she was no match for JM. But she was a wannabe. I always thought she should appear timid, shy and soft-spoken, giving brief concise answers. Juan would appear to be a bully and she would be the sweet professional expert. But noooooooooooooooo!!!! ALV actually thought she was Juan's equal or better. Way, way over her head.
