A view from the inside: observations from our own court observers

Anita, there was a young lady next to TA's sisters today sitting with an older gentleman. Do you know if she was part of TA's family?

You were great on Dr Drew Anita .

Interesting, based on what I noticed about her dirty fingers. Not to be unpleasant or rude, but the skin around her fingernails (chewed very short, like mine) was very dark/dirty. Sooty comes to mind.

Thanks for the info, Shan!

Just FYI... I edited my original comment. It was arson but not with ladyfriend. It was with another woman and man.:blushing:

Before trial I ran into Jinkasauraus (literally) as she came off the elevator running to get to court and I was running from the r.r. to sit in the queue to be selected for court. I noticed then that she is tiny, but looking at her in the courtroom, she is STUNNING (underlined twice) in person. And she looks MUCH younger, as well.

The defendant is being a smartass/smarmy/smirky jerk. No more mousy librarian!

OMG! Jurors NOT (underlined twice) amused with her cutesy "Lonnies baptism did not include pop rocks & tootsie pops". I see a sneer.

She thinks she's going to outsmart him. (Juan)

Gallery collectively smirked when JM asked JA if she was an attorney (she said it wasn't a crime to read her journal)

FOJ think the braid testimony is funny. ????? There is something a little off about Auntie. Not in a bad or evil way. Maybe she's got an intelligence deficit?

Yes, that was Travis's baby sister, Ally. I met her and her husband (the older gentleman) after court. She is movie-star gorgeous and very sweet. She walked out of the courtroom at each break and after court with tears in her eyes. I believe yesterday was her first time in court. She is only 22.

Thank you. :blushing:

Nurmi literally paging through every page of this photography magazine Juan is trying to admit..totally stalling and it's obvious. He's clearly seen this exhibit before...this is not new to him. Why take so many minutes fondling it? (sorry that was gratuitous).

Thank you, Katiecoolady, and Anita, too. Yesterday was the 1st day I ever saw either the perp or Nurmi read without glasses. Was it, or had you ever seen either of them read glassless before? :waitasec:

(My guess is he wasn't reading at all, just pretending, because he has genuine need for glasses, unlike the perp.)

Thanks Katie and Anita for all the great updates and info!!!! You both rock :) and you looked great on Dr. Drew Anita!

I just want to say for the record that the camera adds 50 lbs and 15 years. I am actually 100 lbs and 28 years old! ;) I haven't seen it, just heard it and I'm mortified that I used the word "disseminate" when I meant "dissect"! But in my defense, I had JUST MET BETH KARAS and my head was spinning!

Thank you for the compliments! You guys are easing my discomfort! :seeya:

You mean your brain was scrambled, don't you? LOL moo
Thanks ever so for your and Katie's post,

Thank you our eyes and ears in the court room. It is great to have yall's observations it really gives us insight to so much (like the jurors reactions, family members reactions feelings etc). Yall are doing a GREAT job. Anita I think you did a great job on Dr D. and I am so glad you got your question in at the end for the body language expert. I found it very interesting and telling.

Thanks Anita, I agree she is very very pretty.

YW .. you did such a great job in court and on Dr Drew.

BBM - You know I have theory that people like Jodi and Casey Anthony probably connected more to their journals than actual people. It's like a friend they confide in who never judges them or puts them down. Since we know sociopaths can't bond with other human beings, they bond with their journals and see them as part of themselves maybe, and probably care more about them than most.

ITA!! They can write their own twisted version of themselves and never get challenged by anyone. My dad has narcissistic PD & he is a voluminous journaler. I guess they can never get enough of themselves.

(I looove your sig! Perfect!!!)

I would like to attend the trial live on Monday. Is there a long line to get in? Is there a chance of not getting in? What time should I arrive? Where should I park? Is it chilly in the court room? Any tips or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks.

HOLY COW and THANK GOD! I thought the judge meant for her to read the ENTIRE transcript (for the past 3+ weeks) not just the entire transcript for that day!

FOJ (Friends/Family of Jodi) sent the deputy a note about sleeping guy. They are PIZZED! I would be, too. Even though she doesn't seem to be taking this very seriously, the fact is their friend and daughter/neice is on trial for her LIFE and some cretin is SNORING in the gallery! Disrepectful. Also, I'm glad that their anger/ire is now obviously directed at someone else because Donovan noticed me trying to eavesdrop on her conversation with her girlfriend and now they're cupped hand whispering and writing notes. (I don't mean to be rude, I just want to bring back as much info for my peeps, here!)

Judge just gave Nurmi a dirty look (the kind I give the Richkids when they are trying to pull a fastone on mom) when she overruled their objection to Jodi reviewing the journal entry. Judge is really lovely in person.

Being a visual person, it's really hard for me to listen to JM pointing out pages to JA without seeing what he's pointing to. I like exhibits. I think there are some jurors who feel the same.

A law student in my row is "softing" a tiny lavender blanket. Odd.

I wonder if they have aspergers. My grandson has silk boxers (took them from his Da (his grandfather, my better half) when he was about eight months old, he's now eighteen) that he rubs them between his fingers, and stuffs them in his jeans pocket if he's going somewhere. He says it calms him.
When he had court order visitation he'd take them, and his mother would throw them away and make fun of him.
Sometimes he paces the house with them in hand when he says he feels "unsettled".

EVERYONE (including the media) commented on how FEW people were there yesterday! It was really expected to be a day when everyone would want to get in; I figured most people would realize it and assume they WOULDN'T get in, so they didn't try. I arrived at 9 and was the 21st person. I think they ultimately let in 26 for the morning session. Yes there is a chance of not getting in, however, if you don't get in for the am session, you can wait for the afternoon session (having been in court in the am doesn't give you priority) and get first dibs on a seat. I spoke with two women who get there at 5 am and chat with each other. That's not necessary, but they DO always get a seat. There is a parking garage catty corner to the South Tower (where the trial is), the parking is $5 a day. I can't recall the street, but you could google view it and figure it out. Some people mentioned being chilly in the courtroom. I had on a shortsleeved top with a long sleeve shirt on under it for court and I was totally comfortable, all day.

If you have a smartphone or a tablet, I'd bring it in case you don't get in, there is free wifi at the courthouse. Bring a water, it's the only liquid available in the courtroom and coughdrops or mints or hard candies. It's dry in there. Bring a pad of paper and pens and take lots of notes! Don't be afraid to talk to people; they are all so friendly and it's like a giant fraternity of trial watchers in the public section. EVEN the "Jodi Supporters". If you get a chance to meet the family of Travis, take it. They LOVE, EMBRACE, WELCOME, APPRECIATE every single interaction with the public, even though they are strangers.

Before court, Tanisha came over to the spectator waiting area with a baggie full of ribbons for Travis and the courtwatchers who had been there previously swarmed her. She ran out quickly but hugged each and every person who approached her.

I soooo hope you go!!! Make sure you introduce yourself to the Katies, they are both so open and welcoming and approachable, too! Hope this helps!

Katiecoolady: Thanks to you & Anita for the awesome updates! I have a question: does Juan know how much support he has from us here at Websleuths? The talking heads love to play games for ratings and they don't really care about reality--but the jury does, we Websleuthers do and Travis' family sure does.

Please tell him we think he's brilliant and doing an amazing job--I have never seen a better, more consise, more prepared prosecutor. He's my hero!

I'm sorry about that, poor kiddo. I hope you didn't feel like my "odd" comment was making fun of her.

I wondered about Asperger's, too. It's impressive to me that if she has Asperger's that she's making it through law school. Not a walk in the park, imo.

Tricolor's head snaps back and forth at the "poprocks & tootsie pop" comment. I think she's a hairdresser.

Jodi's friends go "HMPH!" loud @ the p.r. & t.p.

Gotta ask The Other Katie re: she told me that Donovan and her girlfriend were Jodi's "jail friends", they are allowed out of jail every day to come see the trial. (This was in the morning, before court.) I asked her then how that could be possible and she said "criminals have rights" lol. Anyway, D and friend are in street clothes, matching shirts. D is in a mint green and her girlfriend's top accents it with mint green/pink/yellow/cream stripes.

The cute court report looks at Jodi a lot. I love his expressions on tv, I can see them in the courtroom, too. Her affect seems to be more theatrical in real life than on tv, you can really tell she is putting on an act.

WTH is she reading? Homer's Odyssey?!

BBM
I call her Maricopa Strawberry Shortcake. For those who followed the Scott Peterson trial. :)

You know I heard someone say that yesterday and I was like WTHeck.:waitasec:

I think that was Nancy Grace who said that, and also the defense lawyer on there stated that Jodi only needs one juror on her side to get an aquittal!I'm no lawyer, but even I know that would only give her a hung jury, she needs all 12 on her side for an acquittal .Some of these talking heads make me laugh!
