Details of Disappearance
Baran traveled from his native Turkey to the United States in 2001 and settled in Columbus, Ohio. His family last heard from him sometime in 2008. He was last known to be living near the Ohio State University campus; he frequented shelters and libraries in the area. He has never been heard from again. Few details are available in his case.

Oh, this is terribly sad. Sounds like a mental break/psychotic/manic episode could be involved here -- though I wonder if he'd kept that under wraps from his family for a while, because he'd have been nearly 40 when they last heard from him. That's fairly late in life to start experiencing those symptoms, though not impossible. I wonder if he had any local ties that could speak to his state of mind?

This is such a long time to be gone, though, and being Turkish you'd think he'd not blend in as easily as someone born and raised here. I hope his loved ones get answers someday.

I hope he's alive somewhere and will see his family's pleas and will contact them. Police would help him do that. I wonder if he battled depression, etc. because being far from family in a new country is very difficult for a lot of people.

I seem to recall a John Doe who was found with coins in his pocket from the Middle Eastern region. I am having trouble finding it now to see if any of the dates/details line up.

Can anyone recall such a case?
