GUILTY AK - Ashley Johnson-Barr, 10, Kotzebue, 6 Sep 2018 *Arrest*

  • #81
I’m afraid she could be anywhere; could’ve been abducted and taken away from the area by vehicle or boat on Thursday. The town is so isolated I hope someone saw something out of the ordinary that day.
My fear is that someone local has taken Ashley, not only for the obvious reasons but also because in a community this small where everyone knows each other it would likely tear it apart.

Her discarded cell phone which was left out in the street in a public area may very well indicate that Ashley encountered a stranger who would not worry about it being found.

While I continue to hope that Ashley is found safe and unharmed it seems more and more likely with each passing day that she isn't lost or a runaway. Where are you little girl??

An update on the search for Ashley Johnson-Barr, live from Kotzebue. Lt. David Hanson with the Alaska State Troopers is speaking to the media about the latest developments in the exhaustive search.

Lt. Hanson is very focused and approachable in this PC clip. Thank you for sharing the clip. They have solid resources on the ground there now. Hoping they have good leads and a resolution soon.

No roads lead out of this town.

A total of 15 FBI agents are now in Kotzebue ... Some are from the Lower 48, and have been brought to Kotzebue because they have "specialized training related to cases involving missing juveniles” ... Alaska State Troopers are the lead on the investigation. Ten troopers are in Kotzebue assisting with the search and rescue ...In addition, three members of the Kotzebue Police Department, a village public safety officer, between 40 and 50 search and rescue volunteers, and two search and rescue dogs are working to find Johnson-Barr

Wow. The FBI is putting a ton of resources into this case. Reminds me of the Mollie case.

Im glad they are though, and very happy to see the troopers requested their help early on.

In a town this small where everyone knows everyone and there's only one way in and one way out, somebody has to know something. The number of sex offenders in the area is a little unnerving.

Yes, 28 sex offenders in that tiny town. According to AK DPS map. It appears that they know of 3 that have failed to register.

In the article, they mention MyTracks app as a tool they are using. I have not heard of it before but it looks interesting. MOO

“MyTracks is a GPS tracking application that runs on Android. The application uses a device's GPS to collect data, allowing real-time review of path, speed, distance, and elevation. Later, this data can be saved to Google Maps, Google Fusion Tables, or Google Docs and shared with Google+, Facebook, or Twitter. The application also allows a user to record annotations along the path, hear periodic voice announcements of progress, and sync with select third-party bio-metric sensors.”

Snip

“Google has announced that as of the 1st May 2016, MyTracks will be deprecated and no longer available in the Google Play Store.[2][4] The app itself continues to work and is still available to sideload via APK repositories.

An in-app popup alerted users that MyTracks would stop working on April 30, 2016;[5] Google has confirmed[6] they will be investing in "other, more wide-reaching, mapping projects".“

The park is a popular place for local kids, but Ashley’s father said it’s not close to the family’s home. “It’s kind of, a little unusual for her to come over here by herself at that time of the night,” he said.

Ashley is a fun-loving 5th-grader with a passion for basketball. “She loves Steph Curry, she’s very energetic, very happy, always having a smile on her face on a daily basis whether she was with her sisters or friends.”

So maybe the park was the place where she wanted to meet somebody that evening? Just speculation.

She is 10 years old. Why would she be allowed to go to the park in the evening (bath, homework, getting ready for bed etc) and not close to the home. My son is 16 (very small for his age and he isn't allowed to go anywhere without me around. Any facebook pages for Ashley or her parents or other social media (instagram, which I found out from my son that alot of teens will instagram if they don't have a phone due to using a tablet vs a phone)

Family say Kotzebue girl's disappearance less clear as search priorities shift / Chris Klint, KTVA

Family say Kotzebue girl's disappearance less clear as search priorities shift

Walter "Scotty" Barr, Ashley's father, says he has heard conflicting accounts of what led up to her disappearance.

One version of events has her visiting another park around 5:00 p.m. Thursday before coming to Rainbow Park, while another version has her in the company of another girl. Barr says he and the authorities have tried to identify the other girl but he understands why she may be reticent to speak.

Rumors abound in the small town about what may have happened before Barr-Johnson vanished. Lt. Dave Hanson with the Alaska State Troopers says they are investigating every lead, but that in a small community, he knows "it's hard for folks not to chime in."

Barr says that Ashley's curfew is 8:30 p.m. and that the family became concerned when she didn't make it back before dark. Barr, who works at Ravn Alaska, raised the alarm with his brother Peter to come join the search. He says he called her cell phone around "20 times" before someone answered saying it had been dropped near the NANA building, roughly a half mile in the opposite direction from her usual route home from school.

Shannon Kimball, director at large with the Alaska Search and Rescue Association, announced to the gathering of volunteers around 9:00 p.m. that all the investigation from the search and rescue effort had been completed.

She said that crews had searched 80-99 percent of the areas that needed to be searched, and that it would take new information for search efforts to continue Wednesday.

Volunteer crews will meet again at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday to decide if or when a search and rescue operation will resume.

There's a video at the link where Chris Klint reports from Rainbow Park. The father is interviewed in the video.

Was she ever seen at the park physically? Any friends mention she was there, what time she left, did she go home by herself or did another friend or someone walk with her?
