He's friends on FB with her father? So family friend? Family member? Just speculation on my part.

Is Peter Wilson one of the RSOs who lives in Kotzebue?

Peter Wilson

Peter Wilson’s Facebook. Sadly, he’s friends with both Ashley’s parents on FB.

why would someone so close to both parents and living in such a small town do something so stupid and heartless like this? granted, he's thus far only been arrested for making false statements but obviously it looks like more is about to follow...

Most of these types of crimes are perpetrated by someone the victim knew. It is much rarer to have a true stranger abduction.

Which is all the more terrifying in my opinion.

you're right, i've heard this before...it is just so mind boggling to me that someone would groom the parents, groom the child, then strike like a snake out of nowhere when the opportunity arose. sickening. her parents seem like such gracious and loving people.

Although, he IS FB friends with two who are listed as RSOs.

whoa. this is getting weird. my brain might be a little too foggy for the mental gymnastics at this hour on the east coast but this could go in a variety of directions...

ETA* After doing a little of my own research i've found that he's friends with more than just two RSO's im at 4... jesus....

It's not at all uncommon for everyone to know everyone in small towns up here. Most are often related as well.

i think what i find most shocking is the amount of family members related to one another on the RSO list for Kotzebue. disturbing.

I lived in the area for years, and to give a little background, it is sadly not unusual at all to have such a high rate of RSO’s, and just like everywhere else the number of unreported offenses means the rate is actually much higher. Also, given the size of the communities and that most people are related (through marriage etc) RSO’s are not viewed within the communities with nearly as much stigma as in other parts of the country. Most kids grow up with multiple relatives that are RSO’s that they see regularly. It just isn’t seen as nearly as big of a deal as other places. And as we know, sexual abuse is such a cyclical issue it will continue to be a massive problem for generations to come. The village I lived in had an RSO come back after serving a lengthy sentence and he was welcomed with open arms by the community including the victim and her family. Sorry if this is a little off topic but just wanted to give some explantation as to why it wouldn’t be unusual at all for someone to have a handful of fb friends that are RSO’s. They are likely relatives or childhood friends. And just because someone isn’t one, doesn’t mean this is their first offense.

Yes, I'm starting to think so because the dad is FB friends with 7 of the listed RSOs.

Wow. this really explains a lot. thank you for the context. i dont understand it at all, how it could not be a big deal, and the part about it being a massive problem for generations to come is so scary...what a real hell this place called earth can be for children...
