  • Details of Disappearance
Letney was last seen on November 1, 1986. He had recently moved to Alaska from Zavalla, Texas to seek work, and planned to bring his three young daughters to stay with him when he got settled.

Investigators determined Letney crossed the Canadian border, saying he was going back to Texas. He may have attempted to travel to Bonweir or Orange, Texas. He apparently never arrived and it's unclear exactly where he went missing. He was allegedly reported missing in Angelina County, Texas sometime in 1987, but the record of this report has been lost.

Letney has never been heard from again. Texas authorities are assisting in the investigation into his disappearance.

These cases are even harder. Not knowing where exactly they were last known to be alive. Unless he went back to Alaska, we know he at least made it to Canada. I wonder if there’d be record of him crossing into the US.

Luckily his family submitted DNA to be compared with Does in the system.

25 years after Zavalla man disappears, family has hope with DNA

"The Alaskan police they checked the log and said he'd left through the Canada border. He was headed to Texas then," said Letney. Bucky Letney's family believes he was trying to get to his kids. If that's true, he disappeared somewhere between Alaska and his home right here in Zavalla.”

according to the doe network in Alaska he was facing charges for an unknown situation in May 1986... perhaps he wanted to escape from that lawsuit and fled to some unknown part or somehow he found out about the possible sentence and committed suicide, it could be that he did not want to go to jail... I feel sorry for his little girls and his brother who are still waiting for him... to know what happened to him...
either way
rest in peace

Circumstances of Disappearance: Jackie Letney was reported missing in 1986. His last known location was Fairbanks, Alaska, where he failed to appear on an outstanding warrant for unknown charges in May 1986. Authorities suspect that he may have returned to Newton County, Texas some time in 1987; Alaskan police state that he'd left through the Canadian border, heading for Texas. Mr. Letney's daughters and brother are still hoping to learn what happened to him.
