Additional charges for Smith, accused of recorded hotel slaying

Additional charges for Smith, accused of recorded hotel slaying

" Brian Steven Smith, 48, now faces eight total charges in the case. He originally faced one count of Murder, but now faces one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree sex assault, and two counts of tampering with evidence.
(...)
Smith is due back in court Wednesday to be arraigned on the new charges."

So, he's due back in court Wednesday to be arraigned on the new charges.

I don't think his wife knew this side of him. She's an accomplished woman of 69 with a lifetime of goals and accomplishments. She is quite involved in her music interests. I'm afraid he may have had her fooled for his convenience. I hope she gets to see and hear a part of that video and leaves him to face his own music.

Very interesting...he was on LE's radar before knowing about the SD Card but they haven't disclosed why they were looking at him.

I have a feeling that this is going to blow up big time.

BBM

Oh really???
As someone said before, this was probably just the tip of the iceberg.
I keep wondering about the investigation his voice was recognized from... It must have been something recent (or perhaps similar), since his accent immediately rang a bell?!

Friend sheds light on murder victim's life

Friend says she was living in a hotel room in Anchorage.

Brian Smith pleads not guilty in torture, murder case

So he’s going with not guilty and a public defender. Good luck with that!

There was one creepy guy posting on her FB a lot and on the day she was killed. Last time he posted I believe was about that time too. His name was listed as ‘Trenton John’ with only one friend named ‘John Trenton’ who was listed as married. Hopefully they are following up on that.

I think they may need a bit more evidence too such as DNA or an electronic trail linking the two despite the current evidence - same hotel, same time, same truck, same accent.

I noticed that friend too... I think he was not FB savvy and was probably replying to her private messages through the photos. JMO of course.

The not guilty thing, as i was taught here by some members, is probably just to buy the defense some time. I think LE has irrefutable evidence by now... Again, JMO.

BBM. I admit I hope public defender means SB has seen the truth and will not be spending her retirement money on her soon-to-be ex-husband's legal defense. I hope she is cooperating with investigators and can move on and heal as much as possible. That would be the best possible outcome for her.

There are a lot of young women missing from Anchorage. This young mom went missing in 2014 and had a challenging life and vulnerabilities that remind me a lot of Kathleen. Cute, good-hearted, but struggling and vulnerable.

SandBBM: Probably not a lot of South African accents in Alaska. It is pretty distinctive IMO.

Wow!

He confessed.

"According to a bail memo, Smith spoke with detectives after his arrest and admitted he was the man shown in the videos assaulting Henry, that he disposed Henry's body along the Seward Highway.

During that interview, he also told investigators that between 2017 and 2018 he shot a woman. He then provided the location of where he disposed of her body. When detectives showed him a photo of Abouchuk, he identified her as the woman he shot.

Authorities involved in the case have declined to say whether they believe there are more victims."

Plus:
“…sometime between 2017-2018, at or near Anchorage, BRIAN STEVEN SMITH engaged in sexual penetration of a corpse.”

Sicko.

How many more are there, was my first thought.

Exactly. I can't imagine that these are the only two.

He confessed and yet he pled not guilty. He's in the video and he told them where to find the other body and yet he pleads not guilty. OK then.....

I wonder if she knew where he was heading when he was arrested.

"Brian Steven Smith, a 48-year-old reportedly from South Africa, was arrested at Ted Stevens International Airportafter investigators linked him to the crime."
