From last Thursday before the long weekend break.
You can Watch Video too.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - When the jury in the murder trial of Brian Smith Thursday morning was shown pictures of a skeleton found along the Seward Highway, muffled crying could be heard in the courtroom.

Kleenex tissues were handed back to the gallery as pictures of a small skeleton, curled in a fetal position, were shown to the jury. The human remains were discovered by Alaska Railroad workers along a windy stretch of the highway, and in previous testimony, prosecutors have said they belong to 30-year-old Kathleen Jo Henry. :(

An officer with the Anchorage Police Department testified that bones were missing from parts of the hand.

“The jawbone is right here,” said Shawn Davies, pointing to a picture on a large screen behind him. “You can see teeth on the bottom part of the jawbone.”
[...]
On Thursday afternoon, numerous law enforcement officers spoke to the jury while going over the hundreds of photos taken in the Marriott hotel room, Smith’s home and of the skeletal remains on the highway.

One of those officers was APD Lt. Amanda Fisher, who showed the jury multiple pictures of Smith’s home as well as the firearms they found there. It was in his living room that Smith said he shot Abouchuk while she lay on a red couch, telling detectives he became angry over her refusal to shower. Smith reportedly picked up Abouchuk outside a grocery store to have sex with her.

Fisher testified that during the investigation APD sprayed a substance on the carpet that turns an area a glowing blue color if blood is possibly found. After applying the substance, the carpet changed color, indicating that the carpet may contain blood.
.....Further testimony on the carpet is expected to come next week.
They could have stopped Brian from killing back in 2018 when Alicia Youngblood contacted the police. Information given from Brian details calls and police reports. APD didn't listen to her and they allowed him to roam freely to inflict more harm!

MOO here, there's nothing new about the fact that police had talked to Alicia Youngblood, and that she told the police things. Not sure the police can be blamed though. It was presented to some extent in the courtroom what Alicia told LE.

However, I'm not sure they could do much with the info without further evidence. LE couldn't arrest BS on hearsay and hold him indefinitely in custody. They probably didn't have enough actual proof, solid evidence, to charge him. And then, unfortunately, as I understood it, Alicia died, and couldn't testify to anything she told LE.

All MOO.

I recognized BS in this trailer for a series starting October 20, 2024 on the Court TV channel. Looks like his interviews will be included in one of the episodes. In any case, it looks like an interesting series.

1729911641806.png The new Court TV episode on Brian Smith's interviews and the case is definitely worth watching. I lucked out and the repeat of it is on right now. Everyone, Watch It if you can.

That wasn't a secret though about Alicia Youngblood. In fact, Court TV's new program is on right now covering the case and showing some really clear details including Alicia Youngblood. This may not be all true, but Brian Smith says in his interviews that she liked it rough and encouraged him to some extent. They both made up stories of crimes they did, his might've been real though. She may have been working with LE later on, after their relationship changed. Alicia was supplying LE with info, but started to tell her LE contact that she was getting scared what was going on BS was getting too wild.

LE did get a lot of info from her; however, they say on the show that Alicia moved and died in Oklahoma before LE could do anything further with her as their witness.
Even though we followed this case very closely for years, still some of this show is revealing chilling details. All MOO.

If you find their schedule of episodes and when they'll repeat each you might be able to see it at this link. I thought it was worth watching.

Calling out to you, @PatLaurel. It's time. It's really going to happen finally. He's going to trial.

You're so right, @MeadowMuffin. It would be great to be able to see this man go down. It'd be interesting to hear him on the stand. I wonder if he'll testify on his own behalf. Doubt it though. What do you think? How can we follow it more closely?

Thanks for posting the article, and some of the wording, @imstilla.grandma. It's behind a pay wall for me, but there's the other article. We need all the updates we can get on this please.

I have to react now. We've waited so long. I hope he gets LWOP. He's a piece of crud. Bragging about being a serial killer. He's an evil buffoon. Sounds like he had no remorse when he talked to LE. His wife at the time must've been floored to hear the details, him bragging in his own words.

Oh @dotr, thank you so much for posting this article. Long awaited trial finally. Oh, this is how the digital memory card got "found" and brought to LE in reality. Not found on the street as we heard.

"Smith's attorney, Timothy Ayer, unsuccessfully sought to have the digital memory card's evidence — or even mention of it — excluded at trial. The woman who turned in the card initially claimed she had simply found it on the street, and it wasn't until a second interview that she confessed she had stolen the card from Smith's truck while he tried to get money from an ATM and she had it for a week before giving it to police, he said."

Justice! To all the members on WS that followed this case, I wanted to let you know he's been sentenced and will now sling away into the darkness never to be free again.

Trying to alert those who followed this case. Please don't feel slighted if I didn't get your name into this list as it turned out to be too ambitious of an idea of mine-- @MeadowMuffin, @Marysmith, @LadyL, @PatLaurel @cocomod, @Knitty, @lightofmine99, @Merzerie, @momsof3, @vls12345, @AshPG85, @Aydrianna523, @Tealgrove, @whiterhino, @sripey, @Lore Listener @Rhozwen, @evelezrn, @Betty P, @weepingangel, any many more...

With all of his convictions combined, Smith was sentenced to 226 years, meaning he will die in prison.

“It’s clear to me if he’s released he’ll probably kill again,” Anchorage Superior Court Judge Kevin Saxby said.

In the front row — overflowing to jury seats, red handprints pressed onto their faces — sat family. The image, and red color, have become a symbol of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons.

Both women killed were Alaska Native.

Henry was from the village of Eek and Abouchuk was from Stebbins.

The judge started the sentencing by saying the names of the victims should be used instead of initials.

“It restores some of their personhood,” Saxby said.
Thank you for remembering me @Curious Me ! Justice has finally been served. I hope Miss Bissland finds some peace. She's also a victim and my heart goes out for her!

What about BS's confidant?

IANAL, but I would think this man, Ian Calhoun, could be charged with accessory after the fact. But his attorney cited his 5th amendment right, and so the courts backed down. Not quite understanding this.

"The Anchorage District Attorney’s office has issued a statement in response to the protestors. It said it “appreciates the public’s concern surrounding the Brian Smith homicide case, and in particular, the perception that Ian Calhoun was complicit in Smith’s actions.” But it says, at this point, the state does not have proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Calhoun assisted Smith. Should new information come to light, the DA’s office says it might re-evaluate the case."

  • David Scott is one of the best interviewers around.
  • Thank goodness for the courageous woman who turned in the phone/video she found in Brian Steven Smith's truck. She broke the case!
  • Brian Steven Smith is a serial killer.
  • Brian Steven Smith is a very scary evil person.
  • Brian Steven Smith did not leave South Africa for financial reasons only.
