Rescue crews have recovered a body in the search for LaVerne and Van Pettigen, the Anchorage couple missing since they were last seen Sunday snowmachining on Big Lake.

One person remains unaccounted for, according to Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters.

Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters said the body of LaVerne Pettigen was discovered in the lake. She said Troopers used sonar and a Remote Operated Vehicle to find it. They'll use the same tools to search for Van Pettigen.

If you go on her social media you will see nothing but a happy family and their beautiful children. This is just heartbreaking.

They found him 25 yards from where they found her.
At least the family doesn't have to wonder.

Body of second missing snowmachiner recovered in Big Lake

Alaska State Troopers have recovered the body of a second missing snowmachiner in their search for a missing couple in Big Lake.

The body of 66-year-old Vanton Pettigen was found in water and ice Saturday morning shortly before noon after the body of his wife, 64-year-old LaVerne Pettigen, was recovered Friday morning.
