I don't remember him asking if we had children or dog (we have grown and grandchild live out of the area, we do have a dog, a pug which I have seen pictured with him) he did ask where we lived, he told us he was staying with an aunt that lived near by. My husband was bother by the way he seemed to be approaching me so he stepped between us. He kind of smirked at my husband. Also the way he was dressed was out of place. Winter jacket with a hoodie underneath, zipped way up and a backpack the was stuffed full. We can't remember much more as it has been around a year and a half since then.
He asked if we needed help and that he liked gardening and had done a lot of it. If he didn't grow up Amish he mostly likely would know a lot about gardening.

Oh my, that would be unnerving if so. Doesn't seem far fetched, as he seemed to have "chosen" the Curriers. In one of the news stories, it said Keyes targeted them because they had an "attached garage and no children". The no children thing kind of mystifies me, how would he know that for certain? Anyway, it would seem he did some exploring in that vicinity.

Is it odd that the man had on a heavy jacket in June? I'm in Cali, by that time we are pretty hot here.

My guess is that he narrowed it down to a few houses to watch. Our house has many clues there are kids: basketball goal, bikes, playhouse, swingset, minivan.

Identity of Man Found in Woods Still Unknown

On November 4, 2010, the body of an unidentified male was found by hunters on Thursday about a mile from Route 11 in Staceyville, Maine. He is believed to be a white male in his fifties that weighed around 150 pounds and around 5'9. When found he was found wearing a blue-and-white plaid, button-down, long-sleeve shirt. The shirt was a “Vineyard Vines” whale shirt. The shirt comes from a company based out of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. He also was wearing St. John’s Bay khaki pants. The pants had a 33-inch waist and a 30-inch inseam. The deceased also had a medium St. John’s Bay dark brown canvas jacket a pair of New Balance sneakers that were model 811, size 10EE.

The deceased also wore a blue and white cap that is pictured. It is believed that he may have died a month prior to his body's discovery.

STACYVILLE, Maine — State police released more information Wednesday about the clothing found on a body that was recovered from the Stacyville woods on Nov. 4 in the hope that the public can help them identify the man.

The badly decomposed body of the man, believed to have been in his 50s and about 5 feet 9 inches tall, was found by deer hunters in the woods off Route 11. The man weighed about 150 pounds, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

Officials from the state medical examiner’s office said there are no signs of foul play and estimate the man may have died sometime in early September.

McCausland said Wednesday that the man was wearing a blue-and-white knit cap with the name “Chris” knit into the design in all capital letters. Police released a photo of the cap to the public.

Before killing the Curriers and Koenig, Keyes’ killings didn't attract much attention. He noted that missing men, in particular, didn't get attention. People just assume they've left home.

"He goes, 'Oddly the bank robbery I did in New York got more publicity than the person I took and killed,’ " Russo said.

Wow, I've read most information about this guy and he scares the hell out of me especially, because my boyfriend and I spend a lot of time hiking and camping all over WA in remote areas. I feel like not only should those who frequent the outdoors have protection/knowledge against animals but now people too, you never know who your going to come across in the middle of nowhere when no one can hear or see anything. It's also scary that he seemed to get more of a thrill killing pairs - I wonder if some pairs weren't even listed as missing and people just thought they left and started over elsewhere.

I read through almost all of the missing WA people on the Charley Project and several cases occurred when Keyes was in WA state - I am working on a list that is narrowed down better. Although its also possible that he kidnapped people in states next door and killed them. This is exactly what he wanted to leave when he killed himself - a big mystery and no closure for victims family or his own daughter. My thoughts go out to her as she has to grow up dealing with this.

I haven't found any couples/pairs that dissapeared in WA during the times he was here though. Who knows what this guy is lying about anyways. I think he wasn't satisfied with how he was a SK and wanted LE on his tail and connecting his crimes causing him to go on the run as the "ultimate rush" similar to Bundys last years. I don't know this guy is terrible but I'm glad he can't continue what he was doing.

Don't think we've heard this revelation before: Keyes served in the U.S. Army for three years, including a brief stint in Egypt, and was discharged from Fort Lewis Army Base in Washington state in 2001. In his interviews, he said he was anxious for his military service to end so that he could start murdering people, Feldis said.

Based on this article, would it be fair to say children were not his victims? I think we should focus on what we know. There is some good information but scattered all over. I'm just pointing out one example regarding his admission that children were not his target. His target appeared to be people with no children and perhaps men because they went unnoticed if disappeared? I'm thinking perhaps a starting point would be missing couples and men? Starting from the West Coast? Just a thought.

Of course, it would be great if more was released by the FBI. No doubt they discovered a lot more from his computer and other resources we don't have available to us.

"When [Keyes] left Alaska, he left with the specific purpose of kidnapping and murdering someone," Chittenden County State Attorney T. J. Donovan said at the press conference. "He was specifically looking for a house that had an attached garage, no car in the driveway, no children, no dog."

The Curriers, unfortunately, fit all of Keyes' criteria. He spent three days in Vermont before striking. He even took out a three-day fishing license and fished before the slayings.

In June 2011, Keyes went to their house and cut a phone line from outside and made sure they did not have a security system that would alert police. He donned a head lamp and broke into their house with a gun and silencer that he had brought with him.

Keyes found the couple in bed and tied them up with zip ties. He took Lorraine Currier's purse and wallet as well as Bill Currier's gun. He left the man's wallet.

He put the couple in their own car and drove them to an abandoned farmhouse that he had previously scoped out. Keyes tied Bill Currier to a stool in the basement and went back to the car for Lorraine Currier.

"Keyes saw that Lorraine had broken free from the zip ties and observed that she was running towards Main Street," Donovan said. "He tackled her to regain control of her."

Keyes took Lorraine Currier to the second floor of the farmhouse and tied her up. He rushed to the basement when he heard commotion and found that Bill Currier's stool had broken and he was partially free.

Israel Keyes, even after death will be investigated, backtracked, and studied for many years to come. Investigators said that when Keyes was asked why, he said, "the question wasn't why, but why not"..
Israel Keyes, was obviously very intellegent, calculating, creative, meticulous, deflective, manipulative, and sadistic. He had a proclivity of enjoying to see things suffer since early childhood. Keyes was an opportunist evil force that acted at random..

Keyes said that his only regret was that he didn't kill more people before getting caught..
Keyes is suspected of having at least 8 victims that he owned up too, but admitted that there were more. My question would be; how many more and who are they..
Seems to me that each time his cell phone & credit card activity went dark in the last decade and a half. He would have ether been robbing banks or taking innocent victim's lives..
Ransom demands are seldom made in abductions/kidnappings today. Particularly as technology has improved: This business model simply doesn't work any more. Since this is a rare mo, other missing/murdered cases with this commonality should be scrutinized, imo.

This Canadian couple was on a Caribbean Cruise in May 2005. It appears IK was in Canada in late April of that same year. It says Western so I'm going to guess he was in British Columbia at some point.

He didn't have to stash his kit because he didn't need one when cruising. He may have cruised for easier robberies, got the money and then moved on to his usual mo. You're right. Lots of people around but yet people disappear without a trace!

~n/t~, possibly, but until he broke his rules of prey in Samantha Koenig's abduction/rape/murder, Keyes was meticulous and very disciplined. Although it may have been easy to dispose of the unsuspecting victims on a cruise. There would have been a manifest/paper trail of his presence on the cruise ship, causing unwanted attention, imo. Israel Keyes, went dark when carrying out his prior evil deeds to remain stealth and off the investigators radar...
Something as simple as the recession or his escalation may have caused him to change his MO/pattern of operation, or he just got over confident & lazy...
Imo, Keyes primary motive was sexual..

In the only case we have detailed information about, he killed Samantha, then went on the cruise, then returned to dispose of her body.

One example doesn't mean it was part of his method, but it does sound a bit like having just killed somebody might have been part of his enjoyment of a vacation.
