I am dead serious and not happy! Yes I have my card. I don't know how they got the info. I just got off the phone with the bank. The charges were made today.

That happened to me too, I apparently purchased three new pairs of skate shoes online and posted them to Chicago. :rocker: Make a police report too. I still have no idea how they got my card details, but I had my card with me. I have used cash a lot more since then though. Took my bank ages to get the money back, but you will get it back.

Not two weeks though. Not typically anyway. This guy led a bit of a different lifestyle so maybe he would go visit family for a couple of weeks. But most of us wouldn't, and definitely not in Alaska in February. If you are going to spend money and take vacation time (or lose work time in his case) you want to go somewhere warm and sunny.

I see that some AK posters disagree on this but I can tell you that the vast majority of AK residents I know want to be anywhere BUT Alaska come February. The winters are long and dark and come February just about everybody is ready for a break.

Good point....I just figured with his background of building cabins in ME and owning "undeveloped" property in NY, might make him more of an "Alaskan" than just an "Alaska resident"...who might despise the weather and daylight hours. Also, the "original" poster to that comment board said nothing that would make me believe that IK was not "out of town" working, and brought his family along.
My opinions only ...on a comment board from a news-site....

I've been gone all day, just catching up. Check out this doc, its hard to read but I believe it says he had a hand gun, plus past use of something, marijuana? and alcohol to excess.

Naturally because of sealed documents everything is not going to be there but the gun strikes me as interesting. I got what you got.

It definitely makes things more serious and adds credence to your bank robbery theory! It just adds to the growing list of questions.

This is not intended to be JK bashing AT ALL, but since the FB page isn't off limits anymore I have to ask this question. There is a heated discussion regarding the reward fund happening right now, and this has never sat right with me. I have never heard of a reward fund being handled this way, and it just seems like the handling, or lack thereof, makes the whole situation hinky.

What has the experience been of some of you veteran sleuthers? I read other threads, but this is the only one I feel qualified to post on.

I missed the whole thing and it seems to have been deleted now (how unusual). I think the fact that it was said to be a "reward" fund originally has disturbed a lot of people. I am sure people realized that some of the funds would go to posters in 43 different languages and lots of colours etc that are not about the actual reward. Usually it is announced as a fund to search for .....

I agree though. If these allegations of spending were aimed at me I would get an accountant in to verify usage of the funds. If some of the funds are going to household bills I could accept that but come out and say it. The man obviously can't work, his daughter is missing.

BUT a donation is a donation. If you don't think it is being used correctly don't donate. A reward fund should be handled as a non-profit by the bank I think. From what I understand it is in his name (although that could be just assumed by someone angry)

Speculation about reward fund spending comes up fairly often from what I've observed. No matter who you are, once you accept a dollar from a stranger, all of your actions come under scrutiny. Heaven forbid you buy a new dress or let yourself be seen dining out. But without a doubt, there are rare instances of blatant misuse. If there is no non-profit set up to handle donations, donors usually have little recourse. About all one can do is chalk it up to experience. Personally, if I make a cash donation to help out someone during a crisis, I assume it will be used where it's needed and leave it at that.

That just scares the heck out of me. Seems every week I hear this story from someone. I'm really sorry this happened to you.

Yes the person's comment is a bit confusing. He didn't flee the state but he was out of town? I guess that's why I was questioning whether he was out of town in a different state or out of the town of Anchorage.

One would assume the SO and child went with but its possilbe they went to different places and were not together too.

I may getting my timeline all confused, but MSM reported that SO was taken into custody in AK and then released after he was arrested in TX. She couldn't have been there at the same time...IMO

Anchorage is a pretty "small" city. This type of thing doesn't happen often. A person at-large that (violently) abducted someone from a coffee shack under duress IS A BIG THING FOR US!!! I cannot underline that more heavily... IMO, to say there is "no public threat" means to me that this person is either under surveillance, gone or otherwise no longer around to do something like this again...Look at the intense response and emotion that this case has garnered...it should be telling.

I understand, but they don't want to cause any more panic than it already has. The public is going to be more vigilant anyway, or I hope they do. But people still have to go about their day-to-day lives. They have to work, go to school, go shopping, all the everyday things. Would LE be justified by telling everyone to be cautious? Yes. But I'm sure their thoughts are that most people have common sense enough to do that anyway.

If that is the case why are they holding him for that reason?

I am not quite sure what you mean by this question. I was addressing the posts regarding LE not warning the public that he is a danger. There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding the fact that they did not identify him to the public while they were investigating, and how much they are obligated to release of the details of their investigation.
If he is a suspect in the kidnapping, and if they have evidence that ties him to it, then they have every right to hold him. He may not be charged with it as yet, but it doesn't mean he won't be sooner or later.
Do you think they should just turn him loose? Even if he is, I can guarantee that he will be watched... very closely.

I do think people are getting dates confused here. Sam abducted FEB 1. A person reports that her daughter watches IK dogs while he is 'out of town' for 2 weeks starting FEB 2. At some point I assume IK returned home and at the end of Feb starting using the credit card in question (in Anchorage). Then in the beginning of MARCH it appears that he left for Texas. So it appears that IK may have been gone from the beginning of Feb to mid or late Feb then returned home, then left again.

I've read comments that his daughter was with him in TX. Seems strange he'd be on a crime spree and have his daughter tag along.

Bolded by me

I keep hoping this is what happened to Sam. Got in a bit of a jam and decided it might be a good time to go somewhere warm and sunny.

Wow. You have added a new actual FACT to our knowledge base. Scarcer than hens teeth! Thank you.

Of course, it prompts questions. If he had a handgun, where did it come from? Did he fly to Vegas with it legally ( if he flew at all?)"

This description of the rigmarole involved makes that highly doubtfull:

http://www.lewrockwell.com/perry/perry25.html

Or did he fly to Vegas because he could get a gun there? Because he had associates or because it is just that kind of place?

Or did he just cross the border in a vehicle and bring his gun with him? Is it so distinctive that it was the item linking him to the abduction?

Does the excessive use of marijuana and alchohol refer to his 2001 arrest in WA? I notice the document does NOT say that he is suspected of armed robbery or kidnapping - I am not sure whether that is significant or not because I am not familiar enough with the criminal legal proceedings.

The press conference, which I just got to watch, generated an equal number of question marks. Was it a slip by the Chief of Police, Mark Mews, when he referred to "other persons" or was that simply filler -- more justification of their non-disclosure of anything substantive to a roomful of reporters?

When he was asked who was in charge of the investigation, the APD or the FBI, he deferred to the FBI agent to answer that. Kinda telling, even though the agent said they were conducting it "jointly."

I think the absolute clampdown on info comes from the FBI - but maybe I have watched too many episodes of Law and Order - I confess, as an ex New Yorker, I watch it just to see the familiar landscape.

The landscape of Anchorage is more of a mystery. One thing I know from living in a state that had a lot of snow is that it shrinks in winter - the number of places where you can pull off the road, for instance, is greatly reduced by all the snowbanks. Parking is harder, and you are more likely to be aware of your neighbors and their activities when they have to dig out before going anywhere. On the other hand, all that darkness and bad weather is good cover, as few people are outdoors watching. I hope this highly publicised search for the white truck produces something.

Great point about the handgun Elephantchild! I didn't even think of that!! How did he fly to Vegas with a handgun? Or like you said, did he pick it up once he was there? I personally don't think he flew to Vegas-I never have. I think he drove. Perhaps he caught a ferry from Anchorage to Washington then drove from there. Surely LE knows the answers. LE (to my knowledge) never said he flew to Vegas, rather it was reported that is what IK told Lufkin PD. And yes that handgun could absolutely be the link to Samantha and could have been visible in the surveillance video. This would be a good reason for keeping the video from the public also. If they saw the handgun and it was unique they certainly wouldn't want the perp to know that they saw it and would hope that he would use it again or at least not dispose of it. And to me this very well could be the 'evidence' found linking him to Sam.

Airline rules for firearms: Travelers may only transport UNLOADED firearms in a locked, hard-sided container in or as checked baggage. All firearms, ammunition and firearm parts, including firearm frames and receivers, are prohibited in carry-on baggage.

I was just about to say, I have traveled with someone who had a firearm many times. It is VERY common for people flying to/from AK to have guns. Hunting charters are pretty big up here, but way less common in the winter. Regardless, it is possible to check a firearm and it done quite frequently.

IMO

I was about to say the same thing- I don't know if more guns go in and out of any airport than ANC. Definitely not strange...
