I had the same thoughts about them releasing the footage. I cried so hard for Sam when I watched it :(

They were probably saving the video for trial, but I think her family has probably already seen it. But what purpose could releasing this footage now possibly serve? I agree, it seems pretty disrespectful to me.

Whoa, did anyone else watch all three of the videos? They seem to be in chronological order, and the 3rd one starts off with the computer/cash register screen off (so at least minutes, possibly hours must have passed since the 1st and 2nd video.
But then someone (I assume it's IK) comes back into the Coffee Hut alone with a flashlight on his head and turns on the computer/register. Then he leaves, comes back in and picks up something off the floor.
Then, I think Sam's boyfriend comes and calls her while looking into the window?

That is my take on it at least, and sorry for the double post. I am just trying to wrap my head around the release of these 3 videos.

I bet it was IK coming back to get the phone and her purse. There was all that confusion on if she did or didn't have her purse. They also mentioned he used a headlamp with curriers. :( What an evil man.

Anchorage, Alaska - The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Alaska, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Anchorage Police Department, after speaking to family members, are able to release additional details of the kidnapping and murder of Samantha Koenig. These details are being provided both to fully explain the courage and resolve Samantha displayed in the final hours of her life, as well as in the hopes that the release of additional details will help investigations of other murders committed by Israel Keyes.

Prior to February 1, 2012, Keyes had selected the Common Grounds coffee stand located on Tudor Road for the site of abduction. He did this after considering other coffee stands, but chose Common Grounds because of its location and because it was open later than other coffee stands. Keyes had never met or seen Samantha Koenig before. He approached the coffee stand just prior to closing time, wearing a ski mask and ordered a coffee. Samantha made the coffee and handed it to Keyes; he then pulled out a gun and demanded money. Samantha complied and then Keyes forced himself inside the coffee stand and tied Samantha's hands with zip ties. He asked where her car was, and she told him that she did not have a vehicle. Keyes then forcibly walked her out of the coffee stand toward Tudor Road.

Samantha broke away from Keyes and tried to run away. Keyes chased her and tackled her to the ground. He put one arm around her and pointed a gun at her body with the other hand; telling her that she needed to cooperate, that the gun had very quiet ammo and that she should not do anything to make him kill her. They walked across Tudor Road into the parking lot between the IHOP restaurant and Dairy Queen, where Keyes' white truck was parked. Keyes had previously prepared the truck for the abduction by taking the mounted tool boxes off the bed of the truck, as well as removing the license plates. Keyes then bound Samantha in the truck and drove away.

Keyes drove around town, explaining to Samantha that this was a kidnapping for ransom. Samantha told Keyes that her family did not have much money, and that Keyes was not likely to get much in ransom. Keyes explained that they will raise money for the ransom by seeking the public's help. Keyes convinced Samantha that if she cooperated, she would be returned to her family unharmed. Samantha believed Keyes, and tried to talk to him in an effort to convince him to release her. At some point on the drive, Keyes realized that Samantha did not have her cell phone, which was necessary for his plan to demand ransom money by sending a text message from her phone. He drove back to Common Grounds and re-entered the coffee stand, leaving Samantha bound in his truck. He retrieved the cell phone and got back into the truck and drove away. Keyes drove to another part of town where he sent two text messages from Samantha's phone. The first message was to Samantha's boyfriend, and the second to the owner of Common Grounds. The text messages made it appear that Samantha just had a bad day and was leaving town for the weekend. Keyes then took the battery out of Samantha's phone.

Keyes asked Samantha for her debit card. Samantha told Keyes that she shared a bank account with her boyfriend, and that his ATM card was in the truck that they shared. Samantha told Keyes where her house was, and gave him the pin number to the ATM card. Keyes put Samantha in the shed in front of his house, bound her, and turned the radio up in the shed so no one would hear her if she screamed. He also told her that he had a police scanner and would know if she attempted to alert the neighbors.

Keyes drove to Samantha's house and retrieved the ATM card from her truck. While he was at Samantha's, he was confronted by her boyfriend, who yelled at him and then went back in the house to get help. Keyes ran back to his truck and left the area before he could be found. He drove to an ATM machine to test the pin number provided by Samantha. He then returned to the shed.

Keyes then sexually assaulted Samantha and asphyxiated her. Keyes left her in the shed and then went back inside his house, where he packed for a pre-planned cruise that he was taking from New Orleans. He left early that morning (February 2) for the cruise.

Keyes returned to Anchorage on February 17, 2012. He then began preparing a ransom note that demanded money be placed in the account connected with the ATM card. He went into the shed and retrieved Samantha's body, taking steps to make it appear that she was still alive, and took a Polaroid picture of her tied up. The photo also showed Keyes' arm holding the Anchorage Daily News from February 13, 2012. He photocopied the photo and, using a manual typewriter he purchased, typed a ransom demand for $30,000 on the back of the photo.

After preparing the note and photo, he placed it in Connor's Bog Park, under a memorial flyer of a dog named "Albert". Then, using Samantha's cell phone, he texted her boyfriend, in substance, that the ransom note was "under Albert" in Connor's Bog Park. The note was recovered by APD.

In the days that followed, Keyes dismembered Samantha's body and drove out to Matanuska Lake, where he cut a hole in the ice and put her body in the lake.

Meanwhile, Samantha's father James Koenig deposited reward money, which had been generously donated by members of the community, into the account connected with Samantha's ATM card. The plan was to attempt to catch the perpetrator by tracking any withdrawals. ATM withdrawals were made in Anchorage, and then in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Authorities were able to determine that the perpetrator of these withdrawals was driving a white Ford Focus. The FBI and the Texas Rangers tracked the ATM withdrawals as they occurred. Ultimately, Corporal Bryan Henry, of the Texas Highway Patrol, pulled over a white Ford Focus matching the description. Keyes was driving. Henry, along with Texas Ranger Steve Rayburn, obtained enough information during the traffic stop to search the Ford Focus. Samantha's cellular telephone was found in the car, and the ATM card was found in Keyes' wallet.

Every time I think I've heard the worst, I read another article.
Poor Sam and her family. People were cruel to them while they were enduring a complete nightmare. God bless them. I don't know how you'd go on.

Israel Keyes 'Killed Up To 15 Victims'

Before killing himself in his Alaska jail cell while awaiting trial, Israel Keyes admitted to a handful of murders

The FBI said Keyes had stashes of weapons scattered across the country, and often flew to an airport, then drove hundreds of miles before targeting victims at random.

Keyes, 34, committed suicide in an Anchorage, Alaska, jail cell while awaiting trial in the kidnapping and killing of an 18-year-old Alaska coffee shop worker.

He apparently used a blade from a disposable shaving razor to slit his wrist and bed sheets to strangle himself, police have said.

"Right now we're looking for information concerning his travels, if anyone may have recognised him," Agent Gonzalez said.

Keyes told police he scoped out potential victims at remote locations including campgrounds and cemeteries. His travels included trips to Hawaii, and Mexico and Canada.

Serial killer Israel Keyes committed suicide in his Alaska jail cell by embedding a disposable razor blade into a pencil and slitting his wrist and using bedding material to strangle himself, the FBI said today.

Keyes, 34, left behind "crumpled, blood soaked paper" with writing on the pages.

Keyes' death came as he was slowly confessing to a string of methodically planned murders that spanned the country. He had admitted to eight murders at the time of his suicide, but had yet to tell investigators the identities of all his victims and left police wondering how many more victims there may have been.

The suicide occurred while Keyes was locked alone in a cell after 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 1. His body was discovered the next morning at 5:57 a.m., the FBI said.

Israel Keyes' travel log released after jail suicide

the FBI released new details today showing that his recent travels included stops in Canada

There have been no details so far about possible slayings in Canada.

The FBI's Anchorage division also released a detailed timeline on Tuesday breaking down Keyes' travels in the last eight years — 35 trips in all — in which he also visited Canada and Mexico.

According to the travel log, Keyes was in Washington and British Columbia between April 20-25 in 2005, and also entered Canada between March 1-9 in 2007, while travelling around Washington and Alaska.

"After his April arrest for the abduction and murder of Alaskan teenager Samantha Koenig, investigators began to build a rapport with Keyes and got him talking about his calculated kills.

"He described that he had a fairly normal childhood and this was a proclivity that he always had, enjoying watching things suffer," Russo said.

Keyes told them his first murder was soon after he left the military in 2000, claiming he'd killed at least eight people since then and hinting there may be more. Investigators say the scariest part was how competent and reasonable he was.

"It would be just like talking to one of us across the table, but it would be this person who had another side to him that enjoyed killing people," Russo said."

FBI Requests the Public’s Assistance Concerning Israel Keyes
FBI Anchorage
December 03, 2012

Special Agent Eric Gonzalez
(907) 276-4441
Mary Rook, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the state of Alaska, requests the public’s assistance in developing information concerning the travels of suspected serial killer Israel Keyes, deceased, in order to identify additional victims. Anyone with information concerning Keyes is encouraged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Based upon investigation conducted following his arrest in March 2012, Israel Keyes is believed to have committed multiple kidnappings and murders across the country between 2001 and March 2012. Keyes lived in Washington from 2001 to March 2007, at which time he moved to Alaska. While living in Alaska, Keyes worked as a general contractor but traveled extensively. In a series of interviews with law enforcement, Keyes described significant planning and preparation for his murders, reflecting a meticulous and organized approach to his crimes. It was not unusual for Keyes to fly into an airport, rent a car, and drive hundreds of miles to his final destination. This was the case in the murder of Bill and Loraine Currier, where Keyes flew into Chicago, rented a car, and drove across several states before arriving in Essex, Vermont. After the murder of the Curriers, Keyes continued his travels on the east coast before returning to Chicago and then to Alaska.

Keyes admitted responsibility for robbing several banks during this timeframe, two of which investigators have corroborated. Keyes used the proceeds from his bank robberies to pay for his travel, along with money he made as a general contractor. Keyes also admitted traveling to various locations to leave supplies he planned to use in a future crime. Keyes buried caches throughout the United States. The FBI has recovered two caches buried by Keyes—one in Eagle River, Alaska, and one near Blakes Falls Reservoir in New York. The caches contained weapons and other items used to dispose of bodies. Keyes indicated the other caches he buried throughout the U.S. contain weapons, money, and items used to dispose of victims.

Investigators believe that Keyes did not know any of his victims prior to their abductions. He described several remote locations that he frequented to look for victims—parks, campgrounds, trailheads, cemeteries, boating areas, etc. Keyes also told investigators that prior to the Currier case, his victims’ disappearances received little if any media coverage. Based on his own research, Keyes stated that one of his victims has been recovered but authorities ruled the death accidental. Investigators have not identified this victim or where this crime occurred.

Keyes admitted to murdering four people in Washington; he killed two people (independent of each other) sometime during 2005 and 2006 and murdered a couple in Washington between 2001 and 2005. It is unknown if these victims were residents of Washington or if they were vacationing in Washington but resided in another state. It is also possible Keyes abducted them from a nearby state and transported them to Washington.

Additionally, Keyes admitted to investigators that in 2009 he murdered a victim on the east coast and disposed of the body in New York State. Based on Keyes’ statements, investigators believe Keyes abducted the victim from a surrounding state and transported him/her to New York.

The timeline below is an outline of Keyes’ travels and whereabouts throughout the United States from 2001 to present. Due to Keyes’ pattern of traveling significant distances by car, the locations are grouped by region rather than specific states.

Keyes referred to Koenig and his other victims as objects!

I am just sickened at the sheer evil hiding behind yet another face of "normal"..

He was a sick, sadistic evil who acted out his evil for nothing but pleasure in seeing his victims suffer.. And so many believed him to be so normal..even after he was arrested so many still believed he was the wrong guy..meanwhile he was a sadistic, well planned, and methodical serial killer who was immediately MARKED OFF LE'S LIST OF SUSPECTS..

He's now burning in one of the hottest pits of Hell..jmo..but so many victims left behind unknown, unnamed, and many likely to never even be found..thereby leaving only a greater wake of tragedy for so many loved ones who will now NEVER HAVE ANSWERS OF WHERE THEIR LOVED ONES ARE, OR WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM..

Evil lurks among us..it shares the sidewalks with you and I's children, and lives around the bend, across the street, and even next door to us..we wave hello and never have a clue of the evil that's guised as one of us.. :chilling:

Maybe some of the victims can be measured with this timeline but I suspect that if he flew in and rented a car and drove around 200 miles away many will never be identified!

Poor Samantha and all the rest of his victims!

From Joe Friday's link:

kept coming in for withdrawals, leading authorities to Texas. And if it had not been for the tenacity of the Texas Rangers and other law enforcement officers in that state, Keyes might never have been caught, Doll said.

Read more here: http://www.adn.com/2012/12/04/27131...tml#storylink=cpy#storylink=cpy#storylink=cpy

Thank you Texas Rangers!!! They really do have a great record for catching bad guys with tenacious efforts. What a wonderful accomplishment to have this serial killer off the streets! I doubt that they had ANY idea who this guy even was when they were tracking him for Samantha's abduction. How horrible that this guy took his secrets to the grave.

Is there any possible way that there may be a journal out there? Haven't we heard often about killers keeping "souveniers"? Could there still be a chance of some cases being solved even with him gone? I am hoping and :praying:
