When I used the word "contract", I couldn't think of the word "negotiation". Maybe the perp is holding out for money, releasing a family member from jail, lowering a family member's sentence...all just "out there" thoughts.

Here is another "out there" thought..could the perp be an undercover cop gone bad? This is NOT to be disrespectful to policemen/women, but there can be individuals that go "south" in ALL lines of work. Maybe "outing" the undercover cop would put even more people in harm's way?

Okay, thanks. IDK, that's a thought worth considering. You're right, there are rogue cops all over the country, so it's a possibility. That could explain the video having the potential of tainting a jury.

I have considered:
1. Someone she knew that had feelings for her, but couldn't have her.
2. Stranger who took her for sex trade (Are there any other girls missing in this area of AK, similar to her?)
3. Like what was previously posted, maybe she was part of something else that cops feared may have made her look bad, hence why tapes may not be shown.

Interesting thought. Maybe a little drug deal gone sour. Who knows?
As for #2, also a possibility. People in the sex trade business usually target runaways, though, but there is always the possibility that a girl from a normal family can be taken. Sad thing is, most of these girls are never seen or heard from again, so I hope that's not it.

Any of these are a distinct possibility, although I think #3 might fit best with LE not releasing the video due to possible jury tainting. Maybe it shows her giving the abductor money, and then it goes sour, like you said?
If there was a money exchange as part of a drug deal, for instance, it makes sense that it would be set up for once the shop was closed up @ 8:00, and may explain her bf being late. If he was aware of what was going on, he may have deliberately held up going to get her so as not to spook whoever she was meeting.

Exactly and I read that the coffee hut was not somewhere people would normally go in and eat at, it was a drive through, so it would be perfect to set a deal up there

It's a drive through coffee shop, Katydid. No inside service.

Here's a link to the Common Grounds website.

That's what I thought. But people were speculating that he came in and surprised her, and I was wondering how they thought that would have happened.

It's possible that someone came in the door.. she was closing up so maybe she took the trash out and someone came in right after. My guess is if she was getting ready to leave, she wouldn't bother re-locking the door.

I don't know. When I was her age I worked in a little swim suit boutique. We closed at dusk. Once we locked the door and began closing up we NEVER EVER left the door unlocked. We were always wary about being robbed.

eta: We never took the trash out or went outside after dark. We took it out earlier in our shift. We all had heard and had been warned about doing things like that.

In Anchorage in the winter, you can't NOT go out after dark.. It's dark by about 3:30-4pm in December. (Not exactly sure what time it got dark on Feb 1st, but just saying.. up here you get more used to doing more in the dark). Besides being in the parking lot of the AK Club which was busy and well-lit, I think that would've provided some sense of safety. And if she was expecting her bf to show up soon, she probably would've left the door unlocked for him.

If she was expecting someone momentarily she may have unlocked the door. For example, I am a chicken, and my doors all constantly have to be locked, but my husband will call and say he's almost home from work and I will often times go unlock the door so he can just come in...just a thought.

Good point about the darkness in Alaska.

But I still think that a girl working alone with a cash register would be cautious about being robbed. imo

Did we ever find out if her bf called to say he was running late?

I hear ya. But didn't he call her to say he was going to be late? I have not heard if he did or not.

IIRC, he was quoted as saying that he "spoke to her minutes before she was abducted"..I don't think the nature of call was ever divulged, whether it was to let her know he'd be late or not. I was thinking more along the lines of the theory I floated a couple posts up. Maybe it wasn't her bf that she was expecting and unlocked the door for....

Exactly.

I don't think she would forget to lock the door. A young woman working alone in a cash biz is going to keep the door locked, imo.
And she had just talked to her bf moments earlier. So she didn't unlock the door for him.

So maybe she was expecting someone else. But she knew about the video cams so she wouldn't have conducted any illegal business transactions right in the booth like that. Or allowed some random guy to come in the biz as it was closing. That would be frowned on by the bosses for sure.

Hey, guys, I was just coming in to post that in the interest of security, a decision has been made not to allow posting pictures from the coffee shop's website or FB page. I'm sorry I had to get to work this morning and didn't have time to post earlier.

MSM photos wil be allowed with a link, as usual. You can also link to the website and FB, but please do not post photos. As always, your questions are welcome. Any of the mods in this forum will be glad to address them.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Chances are, it's a tape that overrides itself after a certain period of time, and like most businesses the video never gets checked unless they are given a reason to. Had she not gone missing, that would probably have held true.

I can't imagine that she would do something illegal or shifty on camera, just in the hopes that no one would happen to review it. Would she know whether or not management looked at the tapes all the time, or just when something seemed strange? I know I would assume that if there is a camera, I am being watched, JMO.

Discussing the coffee shop is fine everyone. Let's just don't dissect the security system. You guys are a little too good, if you know what I mean.

Me too, but I have to allow for the fact that she is 18. Unfortunately, 18 year olds do not always have the best sense or use good logic, kwim?

I don't know...I don't think I agree. I highly doubt she would have intentionally done something illegal on camera. I also personally don't think those first interviews we heard would have sounded the way they did if that were the case...

As the days pass it sure doesn't seem like a good thing. I really hope LE are close and aren't giving this poor family false hope. Unreal how up and down a case can seem with so little information being released!

I also am starting to wonder if all the fighting back and forth over CB did nothing but cause more heartache and steer people in that direction of thinking.

I mean it's entirely possible (likely?) that this was someone she didn't know, had no ties to and she was just a beautiful girl trying to clean her life up and make some money in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Because of her history you can't help but wonder if it's related, but really we haven't been given any information that points in that direction either.. all IMO
