If the police are still serving warrants down there in TX, maybe they are at homes, places he stayed, so if he knows people down there maybe the backpack was left in the car he borrowed and not even related to SK.

Yeah, but he would've had to take the (pink!) backpack on a plane first, right? I can see throwing stuff into a backpack for a local trip.. but the car it was found in had TX plates. How much stuff is a grown man gonna be able to fit in a child's backpack that makes it worth taking on a cross-country trip, as a borrowed suitcase??

Although it was taken out of the car doesn't mean it was his, just that it was in the car.

I am sure someone said he had family in that area (but cannot find that post or a link), he may have borrowed the car from there.

We still don't know how he got to Texas - plane or ferry or car or all three.

If he borrowed the car that may just have been in there and they took it because it was a larger item. Usually though we see evidence bags if it relates to a crime.

Wish the reporters would read here to see the damn questions that need to be answered LOL

the warrants intrigue me. 40 is a lot of warrants. Getting a warrant is not an easy step either. You really have to have decent cause to get one signed off --- 40??? That's LOTS of warrants. Hopefully someone from a Texas paper is watching where these are being served.

To clear this up, I Just had to get passport cards for my young kids to drive from anchorage to Seattle, it is required, even for children.

Ok, the documents are required by US Customs and Border Protection are the passport, enhanced license, etc... BUT, if a person seeks admission to the US and does not have these documents and can prove their citizenship they will be allowed entry into the United States.

What documents did you give state department to get the passport cards? A birth certificate and social security card?

Like the officer who allowed the US citizen back into the US from Canada a few years ago who was know to have active TB.....you cannot refuse a US Citizen entry into their own country.

I only brought this up to agree that it is most likely she is still in Alaska and I'm sorry about this. You can agree or disagree......

Just had to share something I've been thinking about. When I was 15, I stole my grandparents Cadillac, they were supposed to be out of town, but came back early. They thought someone had kidnapped me and stolen the Cadillac and their granddaughter. I found out they were home early, and I didn't go home or take the Cadillac back. I had no concern of their feelings, although I loved them with all my heart. I was just a selfish teenager who didn't want to face the music. I didn't go home until they found me. I keep thinking about this, and it seems awful to me know, but when I was a teenager the whole picture just didn't come in clear. I don't know how long I would have stayed gone if they hadn't tracked me down. I kind of hope this is the case with SK, maybe she's just caught up, maybe they are still down in TX. Trying to locate her because they think she is there. Fingers crossed, I think it would be the best case scenario.

It is all very confusing (You were a rotten kid Mama lol). I keep forgetting they found evidence in that car that was enough to arrest him too.

What kind of evidence may have been found? If he drove the car down I can understand there would be stuff in there. In was last seen by neighbours in earkly March. It takes 70 hours to drive from Anchorage to Lufkin. If he was alone what could he drive daily at best? 12 hours? Add to that slower roads because of snow he would have had to pass and you can add a few more days.

If he came down by plane why would he bring things that are considered evidence and put them in a car he borrowed, hired, stole .... even owned.

Statements from a server at the restaurant Keyes was arrested in front of... yikes. They pulled a pink backpack out of his trunk, but JK says Sam didn't own a backpack.

http://www.adn.com/2012/03/16/2375387/man-arrested-in-koenig-case-awaits.html

My first thought was the backpack belongs to the young girl who lives in his home. It must have been in the trunk of the car. But the waitress at the restaurant states the car he was driving had Texas plates.

Why would Keyes have a pink backpack with him? If this is a rental car, that would be odd. If the car belongs to locals who he was staying with, maybe not so weird if they have kids.

No one has to have a passport to travel within the US..continental US or otherwise.. including all islands of Hawaii.. so what is there such a disagreement about traveling outside of Alaska and/or about the US continental or otherwise?? ?????????????..there is no passport necessary!

http://www.drivetoalaska.net/canada-border-crossing-requirements.php
Getting into Canada requires the passport. The website also says that you may be denied entry if you have had a DUI, which I believe I read IK has. Haven't posted a link before (hope it worked).

Great point, AKMAMA :) This just happened to my friend's son who was traveling with a group of college-bound (lower 48) guys... One of them (unfortunately the driver) was denied entry b/c of a prior DUI... they all ended up driving back to Anchorage...Though I do think there may be a time frame they look back (10 y?)

But if they're going to let the citizens in without a passport (if they can prove US citizenship) doesn't that sort of negate the whole "REQUIRED" part??
I don't buy it. We've also had to go through the whole process of getting passports for the whole family. Why require passports if they're just going to let you in anyway??

Didn't someone say the sealed charges where 3 pages long? That seen to demonstrate they have a good amount of evidence against him.

Nurse Said-
Quote:
“What police are looking for now is people to come forward who may have had involvement with him and his business, Keyes Construction -- possibly if they had given him keys or if he had access to their residents.” said APD spokesperson Anita Shell.

Police say there may have been evidence left behind inside some of these homes.

What would Keyes be doing in other people's homes that left evidence? Are they saying he had Sam inside some of these homes?

Is he using their computers or internet access to do something illegal?

This case is driving me nuts!

I really can't explain it any better that I already have. What exactly is your point...that I'm wrong, I'm not.

It is probably just me and the fact that it is getting late. But, it seems weird to me the words are "suspected kidnapping" instead of "the suspected kidnapping" or " the suspected kidnapping of Samantha Koenig", in reference to "evidence" found in the car. was the evidence found not "directly linkable" to SK or it could be the way the media "relayed the info"? It does not appear to be a "direct" quote. Just my thoughts, wandering....

Investigators found enough evidence in the vehicle to arrest Keyes for suspected kidnapping.

The charges have been sealed, I am not sure if the evidence listing is in there too. Legal papers have a lot of jargon in them.

My question was really aimed at the evidence they found. Why would he carry that around with him (unless he drove down in that car and it was still in there). If he flew would you bring anything and then leave it in a car?

Who is Sam's mom and I'd like to know just where the hell-O Sam's mom has been and remains?

That's what I was thinking too.. 3 pages of charges could contain a LOT of evidence.. and there's the pink backpack. Maybe it was more than one girl.

One thing that doesn't sit with me well was the APD's announcement several weeks back along the lines of there being "no threat to the public". I thought it was odd then...and it made me think that maybe they knew something big that they were holding back on (assumed they knew this was retribution at the time). I suppose if they were watching Keyes for a while, this may have been why they felt they could say this, but...just seems weird.

I believe there was a picture of her mother in one of the first articles about her missing, but I never read an explanation. I wondered about that too.
