I haven't followed this case but this name caught my attention.

Israel Keyes is a very strange name. Is this the name he was born with? Keyes is Irish/English, I think. To have a name like Israel linked with it is odd. Does anyone know his parent's surname?

His name is spelled Isreal on the cert...that's even more odd! Is that pronounced Is real?

ETA: just did some research on the name. I see he lived in Anchorage and Neah Bay....hmm. Was hea fisherman in Neah Bay? Neah Bay is an Indian Reservation and fishing is the only industry from what I recall.

I think it is aimed at whether this man is gueniune. There seems to be very little about him considering what he is suspected of.

Also there was a mna with the same name that committed suicide so people were trying to see whether he had stolen his identity.

Yep, I've been following all that. The fact that there's very little on this guy I think speaks volumes, in this case. I don't think he's the "bad guy" here.

Even in the latest local news report, APD is backpedaling..

http://www.ktuu.com/news/ktuu-koeni...information-on-keyes-20120319,0,1199306.story

Markiewicz said a couple days ago that he was a main player and that he felt Keyes actually did the abduction (which still may be true--but WHY?) but in tonight's report APD says he's only a person of interest, NOT a suspect.

Seems to me they have found out some major piece of info since taking Keyes into custody. I'm betting he told them what really happened and within the next few days, we'll all know. Just my opinion..

Do you see a date to the left of the Lt Colonel's name? No. Its not official unless there is a date there. The military is very meticulous about everything on an award being perfect. That is not an official award. I don't know what this guy thinks he is accomplishing by putting it out there but its not official. Look I served 20+ years and am retired so I do know what I'm talking about. I also served on the Inspector General's Team, Joint Task Force-Alaska, and Quality Assurance during my 20+ years.

Well, there's no need to "LOOK" me.. or provide your resume'.. I just stated my opinion. I don't see what he'd have to gain by providing a sloppy forged document that shows he served 3 lousy years military. WHO would've forged this for him? WHY would they misspell his name? It doesn't make sense, that's all I'm saying.

Don't know and it's probably not that important anyway but maybe to cover if he was dishonorably discharged due to DUI... Moo

I think they are just holding off on naming him a suspect until he is back in Alaska and is facing a judge, with formal charges, etc...JMO

They were talking about where they planned to post the fliers, in the hopes that someone else in the construction field would know him and call..

Thanks, I misread that and thought they wanted the flyers to find where he had been shopping... Time for bed I guess :)

Ive known people who did not get dishonorable discharged for DUI on base, or discharged at all, mostly driving restrictions that lasted longer than if it would've been a regular DUI

Jeez, Anchorage is a small town. A family member of mine knows someone who had Keyes do work on their house in 2010 or early 2011. He did such a great job that they passed his business card along to my family member. They said he cleaned up every night so you didn't even know he was there. These people are elderly and he was very kind to them. They called him a few months later to hire him for more work and he said he would have to get back to them because he was on vacation a sailboat in Puerto Rico with his daughter. These people had him install a wood stove and he told them he had just installed one for his girlfriend.

So, take that tidbit with a grain of salt, it's third hand info from elderly people.

This is interesting...the Keyes family name originates from old docks or quays. http://www.houseofnames.com/keyes-family-crest

This guy has lived on the ocean in a few places and is possibly experienced with boats.

Well where ya been whisperer? We have all been asking after you! lol :)

he did construction on the reservation. His site shows some of the work he did there.
We are questioning whether that award is authentic because of the bad spelling and nno date and lack of signature.

Not sure of his parents name. This guy is pretty unknown for someone that is suspected of kidnapping. All we found was a DUI on an army base.

It is such a weird story. the story changes slightly all the time. Police don't say much and then change their minds. The media doesn't seem to be asking any questions .... very very odd.

I had applied to Neah Bay Tribal Council. I can tell you that you cannot be hired there UNLESS you are a Tribal Member. They wanted to hire me but since I am not Indian and did not have a patch, they were unable to hire me. They said the Federal Government will not let them hire ANYONE that can not produce a Tribal Patch.

So he must be part Native American.

He is a suspect, the evidence found in the car leads to Samantha.

Hmmm, it looks like they give Indian, Veteran and Handicap preference, but I don't see anything requiring Indian hire. http://www.makah.com/pdfs/AppForm.pdf

I agree...not sure what the point is in LE saying otherwise right now. Clearly, he is.

Well, I was there 35 years ago, maybe they lightened up...LOL. It wasn't on the application, it was told to me by the employer. He said the Federal Govt was very strict on this. The pay was good too. I had experience but they had to hire a Native w/out experience because that was the rule on the reservation. There was no one there with my experience either. I was shocked that it worked that way.
