The girl’s mother, identified as 43-year-old Marchelle Pertilla, and the stepfather, 52-year-old Eugene Medrano, had been living and working in Pensacola, according to the girl.
Seven dogs in total were found on the property, as well as one canine that was discovered deceased in a closet, per the report. It further states that investigators discovered a handwritten note next to the girl's sleeping area titled, "How many times mom tells me that she can't pick me up," which was dashed around 87 times. Officials said the interior of the single-wide trailer was covered in urine, feces, roaches and trash. Seven dogs were found on the property, including one dog that was found dead inside a closet.

The sheriff’s office said that when Pertilla was asked why her daughter was left alone, she claimed it was because the girl did not want to leave her service animals. The worst part about these cases is the parents always seem to find some way to justify in their own minds why this is the child's fault.
I just read about this, this morning. Heartbreaking and the picture of the tally marks of how many times the mother said she would come is devastating.
Edit to add: I hope they come up with more charges then what they have now.
