The thing about taking Aniah for robbery purposes that doesn't make sense is that she does not appear to have anything of real value. Her car isn't a luxury vehicle. Her clothes don't look outrageously expensive. She isn't carrying a purse. Targeting her for robbery doesn't seem to make sense. However, nothing in this case seems to make sense. Her poor family.
Maybe a long shot, but could they have been planning to force her to drive them to her apartment to rob it (and potentially also sexually assault her), and miscalculated on her having a roommate? Maybe the roommate’s Snapchat messages asking if she was almost home screwed up the plan?

That's an interesting angle and one that I haven't thought about but a plan like that sounds way too risky to me in a place like Auburn. They would risk any friends or neighbors seeing her and knowing that the perps were out of place with her, IMO.

I don't see how it was planned either, however the mother did say on doctor phil that she knows something that's not out in the public that we obviously don't know. she obviously has reason to believe it was planned, i don't think she would suggest this for no reason.

Wow. I85 in Macon County is where IY was apprehended with the 77 yo victim in his car.

That would be pretty wild if the events are related.

I’m not one to speculate too much but...
Wow this is crazy if it is related. There are too many you people out there just committing crimes and acting like no big deal. We need to punish instead.of this slapping g their hands.

I don't use snapchat so I don't know if it has the ability to show your location. I do know that apple has "find friends" or something, that does show locations. "IF" a friend was involved it makes sense that they would have had to use something like this to be "tracking" her. I just wonder if there would be a record of someone locating her via those methods? I still lean towards the idea this guy just has a sick idea of fun and kidnapping happens to be his fun. Aniah was just unlucky when she crossed paths with him. I pray no friend was involved, how horrible is that to imagine? It is already terrible enough as is.

I think she might suggest it if the family all talked and sort of came to that conclusion on their own as a possibility. However, she did say they had more information that we are unaware of, so that comment of it being planned would make more sense saying based on the knowledge they had. It's hard to wrap my head around this being a planned event with someone in Aniah's life coupled with the fact it was so poorly executed. I haven't ruled it out in my head I am just waiting like we all are for some more information.

If it was planned, it brings a whole new set of questions. Maybe this was always about a ransom, and something went terribly wrong from the beginning to prevent them from requesting any money. How did they know she would be at the store? If planned, she almost certainly would have had to of been followed to the store, which doesn't fit in with IY already being at the store before she got there. Just a lot of holes and things that don't add up. Did she tell anyone she was stopping at the store? I don't recall that anywhere in the timeline. If she didn't tell anyone about the store, how would IY know to be at the store before she arrived? Ugh, I have so many more questions!

That is a good point, but we already know she turned off Life 360 because her battery was low. I would imagine if she used other location services, she would have known to turn those off as well to save her battery? SC does have a map that shows friends your location, but I would assume LE looked into that to check for her location before her phone went off close to midnight. We also didn't hear of any areas her phone last pinged, did we? I also imagine LE has that information as well.

I get the feeling of it being someone close involved, but I'd like to see how IY fits into that picture, especially in Auburn. I could understand this more if the crime happened in Montgomery, but it being in Auburn throws a loop to me and how IY would be connected in the entire scheme.
Could he have just been posted up there waiting for any random good looking auburn student to prey on?

I have Life360 and it does drain your battery so I can see turning that one off, but I never think to turn my "find my phone" option off on my iPhone. And I think that is how you track on the find friends app. And Life360 would probably not include friends, unless her entire circle of family wanted to know where those friends were too. I am sure LE has looked into this all. Which is what makes me wonder how her mom got the idea someone planned it...

I find that much more likely but wouldn't consider that a *planned* action of taking Aniah, specifically. I'd consider it a criminal being a criminal.

I don’t understand why he would be IN the store if that was the case. Standing around in a convenience store for a long time is really suspicious. If he was waiting for someone random to take, I don’t understand why they didn’t just wait in a car outside.

I just caught up on the thread, and this "planned" element has thrown me too...Aniah's parents seem quite bright/wise, so I do give their thoughts weight, especially if there are nuggets of info they possess that we don't. Is this one of these cases where we need to step back & shift perspective/re-think it, more outside the box? Hmm...

Exactly! Like how would anyone know where she was without it being known to LE now. Perhaps she had another interaction that is not known to us, or someone was "tracking" her without her knowing. It certainly causes me to rethink, because when he was arrested I had my mind made up it was a random criminal doing a random crime...

My impressions from the video.

Walt and Angela are definitely reading social media. Or someone is giving them the summary. That makes me happy that WS functions as it does. I’m thankful for us and then that we can all discuss and theorize together hoping to get Aniah back.

Dr. Phil also had good information, factual and good questions. Good job.

We learned she was forced into HER car, according to Angela. So either they were told that, they misinterpreted that, or they assume that.

Angela and Walt think it could have been planned- planned by someone close to Aniah. Hints they have info that makes them think that. What would that be? Maybe the Snapchat’s? Maybe she had actually been talking with someone named Eric . Maybe they’ve never found Eric therefore he’s part of the plan or set up or catfish?

Maybe all the inconsistencies are part of why they think that. (Brother telling her not to go out) implies she said she was going to. All that Skybar, Southeastern, Atm stuff we heard early on but never again.

If planned, what was motive? Robbery or jealousy? Robbery..was there an ATM transaction we don’t know about?

Jealousy fueled anger. Who? Why? I can’t comment here the possibilities. But there could be a few.

Could planned be as big as someone wanting to keep Walt from fighting?

If planned— what’s the connection to Yazeed? How do they know him or his associates? Who drove his car and when did it leave the chevron? Do LE think it was a planned, targeted kidnapping and that’s why they aren’t warning, so to speak, the Auburn area for known accomplices? Would they normally do that?
Is this the reason for the gag order?

call me frustrated... I can only imagine Walt and Angela’s frustration.

Edited: removed incorrect statement about car.

You know, the one thing that I think most points to a known person possibly involved is that odd Eric reply Snapchat series, supposedly from Aniah. It has never made sense to me that some criminal is going to stop and do that, while in the middle of kidnapping someone, KWIM? And it sounds like someone at least attempting to sound like Aniah.

P.S. It also seems just as odd that accomplices would do that, to "buy time," but I guess it's possible...it just doesn't make sense to me, in the context of what was going down. In a way, it's like there is too much trying to convince it sounds like her, or to convince of a scenario...I could see "On my way home!" (if random kidnap event) and that's it -- but why all that other stuff in the exchange?

I still feel like the Snapchat messages are a big key to this case. I can’t make sense out of IY being the one sending them. JMO.

rsbm
But didn’t LE say she was forced into A car (vs HER car)? How is that lying? Or are you referring to something else?

Me too...it's that gut feeling, and it's often the case that it's our gut that knows when something is off...which is likely what Aniah's parents are really feeling strongly. I added a P.S. to my last post...wondering if you guys know what I meant -- and does it strike anyone else that way?

You are correct! They never told us otherwise. I’m going to go back and edit so it doesn’t continue to look like fact to others. Thanks for the reminder.

I said that a while back - if you’re buying time, why all the back and forth? And most of all, why say “yes” when asked if she’s almost home? If the roommate had waited up 20 more minutes and she still wasn’t home, it seems like this could have been a big problem. Why not “I’m with Eric, we might stay at his place tonight,” or something else that actually buys time? And what on earth is happening in that car just after she is abducted that allows for sending Snapchat messages?

I don’t want to get in trouble talking too much about the friend on Twitter, but I feel like it would be so helpful to know if she got the “Eric from a dating app” info from the roommate (recounting the Snapchat messages). If not, it seems odd that “Eric” would come from two independent sources like that. NOT throwing suspicion on the friend, but wondering if someone overheard Aniah talking about “Eric” at some point?
