This article just gives an update from the sponsor of Aniah's Bill & quote from Angela
The push to get Aniah’s Law passed in Alabama

It's so sad that a grieving mom has to fight for this, it should be common sense. I also understand innocent till proven guilty. It just makes no sense a man with his record was out on bond. No doubt in my mind, the victim is only alive because the cops stopped yazeed that night.

  • #925
Also I wonder what's was his actual motive here. It's hard to tell whether Aniah was kidnapped from the get go which is what I assumed. But it seems at first she willingly gave him a ride, if they show him getting out and in of the passenger side at another store, isnt that whats being implied ? Then Why did he have his gun out?

I followed this case as it was happening but have not seen anything at all lately. Has any details about what happened to Aniah been revealed?

Aniah was finally laid to rest yesterday same day as her older brother Darien who died of a car accident before she was born. May they both RIP and if there really is a heaven they are playing with each other, only positive spin I could put on this and of course, the man being charged never being able to physically hurt anyone again.

Thank you @Inquisitive2018, a notable date no Mom should ever have to experience once, let alone twice :(

The Judge took it under advisement & should have decision in a couple of days. Judge Bush found probable cause to send Yazeed’s case to the grand jury. He also denied bail for Yazeed after hearing his motion for bond reconsideration & approved a motion to collect a DNA swab from Yazeed for evidence comparison.
3/4/20 Update: Preliminary hearing set for 4/13/20. 4/13/20: Due to the coronavirus, the preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 6/3/20.
10/23/20 Update: Lee County District attorney Brandon Hughes was unsure when the case might go before a grand jury. The next opportunity is in January.

*Lee County: Yazeed is now charged (4/20/20) with 2nd degree assault in connection with the 3/23/20 incident at the Lee County Detention Center. Lee County
3/23/20 Incident: Yazeed was being assisted back to his cell following a shower. Yazeed allegedly then refused to enter his cell & was given several verbal commands to enter his cell. Officers continued to give verbal commands & Officer Carroll gave him one while having his taser out & he refused to enter his cell. Officer deployed his taser & Yazeed continued to be combative & resisting. Allegedly began swinging his fists and kicking at officers. Tased several more times & had no effect on him, so officer struck him with their batons. A fourth & fifth corrections officers responded to assist & while attempting to gain control of Yazeed, Yazeed bit Officer Dunlap on the lower left leg. Assault on a first responder, including correction officers, is automatically a felony. Preliminary hearing on 5/27/20.
5/27/20 Update: Lee County judge Steven Speakman found probable cause for Yazeed Wednesday on the assault charge & will send the case to a grand jury. Yazeed will be back in court on June 3rd for the preliminary hearing in the capital murder case of Aniah.

The other man was also beaten and robbed of at least $40. Bond was $295K has been revoked (12/5/19). Montgomery County
12/5/19 Update: Due in court for bond hearing in reference to the January 2019 of 1st kidnapping & attempted murder charges. While time has gone by, and Walt Harris has even returned to the Octagon, their family is still feeling the effects of this loss. However they decided that they would try to give back, by starting the “Aniah’s Heart Foundation.”

As Walt explained when speaking to UFC.com, he and his wife began this foundation with the intent to help others who are dealing with missing loved ones. They aim to give some sort of direction and help in ways that they wish they had when they were going through the same thing.
