I'm so sorry to see this news. I was reading through the thread for the first time, and then so sad at the outcome.
I hope the perpetrators are located and arrested. Wonder what the general population in that area is....close knit community? Meth or the like? Any racial tension? One hears of horrible things that happen.
RIP Mr. Wilburn. May justice be swift. Condolences to his loved ones.

Rest In Peace. So sad. Just read the thread yesterday and was shocked by the outcome, though I guess with a blood trail I didn’t think there would be a happy ending. Wonder what happened that his body was found so far away? Hope justice will be swift. Condolences to his family.

Russell Co. Coroner releases cause of death in mysterious murder investigation | WRBL
The Russell County Coroner’s Office released the cause of death for a man found dead in Hatchechubbee Creek.

Anthony Wilborn, of Phenix City, died from a gunshot wound, according to Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.

From this article - first time I've heard his vehicle was on the wrong side of the road. To me, that gives more credence to the idea he was jumping another vehicle or rendering assistance. In any case, still a sad situation. Rest peacefully, Anthony.

Wilborn disappeared on Wednesday, October 21, from the Lonesome Pine area in Phenix City. A family member noticed his truck was left running with its hood opened, parked on the wrong side of the road. They called police about the discovery.

Been thinking... If he was rendering assistance/jumping a vehicle, I think he was either ambushed and the stranded vehicle with it's driver was just a bait... Or we are dealing with an insanely jealous, trigger-happy bf here. Imagine sucha situation: Anthony sees a stranded female driver, so, being a good man he was, stops to check if the lady doesn't need help. The woman accepts the help offer from him, simultaneusly trying to contact her bf. So, Anthony pops up the hood of his car, puts the wiring on, starts the engine... and the boyfriend appears. Unfortunately he is one of these violent, jealous types, so when he sees his gf being helped by Anthony, a handsome, good-looking man, his mind immediately jumps to the cheating scenario and from that moment things go bad, ending up with Anthony being murdered.

I am thinking some sort of road rage incident.

Yup I agree if truck on other side of road, hood up, engine running. He was giving someone a jump start.

Oh no. So very sorry to hear this outcome. May Mr. Wilborn rest peacefully. It still so stinks. So young. Probably being kind giving a jump.

so did family members find it, leave it running while waiting for the cops?
and who saw an injured person at the site?
this story is confusing
"Police say their investigation has revealed someone was near the vehicle and injured before they arrived on scene. The extent and type of injury is not known at this time." WRBL (link at original post).

So I caught up on this thread and so sorry to read that he was found deceased. I agree that it sounds like an ambush possibly baited with a stranded motorist. Since it was so early in the morning, was he on his way to work?
Weird that his vehicle was left. The first thing I thought of is that a carjacker or criminal needed a different car or it did break down or run out of gas. But since Mr Wilborn's vehicle was left...
I don't think a robbery because the perp would probably have robbed him and left. I mean why go to the trouble to move the body?
The perp kidnapped Mr Wilborn after an injury and he was found pretty far away so the perp must have driven him to the site. Makes me think it's someone he knows or perhaps a female friend with a jealous boyfriend.
It certainly is bizarre and I hope they solve this soon. Poor guy, it's a shame.

Maybe someone phoned him to come give them a jump start?

When targeting someone, attackers might sabotage his vehicle under cover of darkness then follow him on his way to work. Let's say hypothetically that they cut a brake line since that's a cliche. There might be enough fluid in his master cylinder for a few brake presses but as the pedal gets softer and softer he might pull over to check his fluid. At this point, he is ambushed and taken to another location for whatever purpose.
