valid point. Here's another, what if the customer, intending to save the employee, accidentally killed or injured the employee while attempting to shoot the gunman holding him hostage?

I am wondering how my thoughts might differ in that instance.

They wouldn't have charged him (at least where I live). It's not a hypothetical situation, it actually happened here. Customer tried to kill robber but killed clerk instead. He didn't get charged.

Thanks jjenny. I suspected that would probably be the case. I was more "checking" myself to see if I would in that instance be angry and taking the stance that the customer should not have meddled or should have acted differently.

I have concluded I really can't second guess the decision to aim and fire by the customer since I wasn't there to live in that moment. Glad only the bad guy got hurt and I don't have to know what I might feel about this case had the employee or customer gotten shot instead.
