The body of a female was found around 1 a.m. Monday in an alley by a dumpster on the city’s north side.

Birmingham police ID burned body found near dumpster

Police identified the body as 44-year-old Angel Buford of Birmingham.

However, on Tuesday, the police department is referring to the case as an unclassified death investigation. Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates said on Tuesday that his office has not determined the cause and manner of death in this case yet.

The March death of a woman found burning next to a Birmingham dumpster has now officially been ruled a homicide.

Birmingham police already were investigating the death of Angel Buford as a crime, but the Jefferson County Coroner's Office has now confirmed that, based on strangulation marks around the victim's neck, said Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards.
