Brittney's mom says her son and daughter are only 16 months apart in age. Derek and Brittney were close growing up and shared a tight bond.

"They have the same friends, run the same places, I mean they're like this. He is Brittney's protector and he feels like he wasn't there when he should've been," says the teen's mom.

Those words have a deeper meaning now... I wonder if she knew any of this was going on.

Being her big "protector" brother, if the gun was BW's, possibly he gave that to her for "protection" when he couldn't be there.

As this is unfolding I can see why she needed protecting. So sad there are innocent victims that weren't protected at all.

Brittney is almost 20 years old so she wouldn't be a minor victim.

With this close knit family and Donnie being her favorite uncle, I don't know how she wouldn't know. Add in her mother saying she wasn't in any trouble after she met with police.

"Brittney, honey, you are in no trouble whatsoever. If you believe you may be in some kind of trouble, I’ve done checked it all out. You are not in any trouble. Call me; instant message me; Facebook me or whatever. Just come home or let me know you are safe," said Wood."

And her brother Derek saying he believes something scared Brittney so badly that she is hiding and afraid.

The sheriff's office says the arrest is not related to the missing teen, but part of an ongoing investigation.

In going with the idea, it kinda makes you wonder if "you will not be in any trouble" is referring to BW being in cahoots with the male family members in luring victims. Many times, victims will also become perpetrators.

As an addict, the idea of financially profiting from luring other victims might just be enough to make a victim a perpetrator.

One a side note, if BW was a victim at some point, for her daughter's father's sake, I would like to think that a paternity test would be performed. I know its crappy to think, but one has wonder after all this family background coming out.

It's not the gun, IMO. I don't think the gun would warrant a need to disappear. As I remember, the gun deal was prior to her disappearance, as BW had time to boast about the trade to DH. That is how family members knew about it.

I didn't mean for it to sound like I thought BW was a victim of DW's...It was more the thought of them hanging with the same group of people, especially now that DW is included with the sexual abuse charged uncles...and with more arrests to come. And also them going to the same places...where these accused abusers could/would be hanging out together, possibly with some victims.

I think she would know something about what has been going on. If her immediate family knew DH was being investigated, I'm sure it was talked about amongst others in the family or with friends. I don't know...the more I type the more confused I get!!!!

According to LE, Brittney is not a victim. Nor do they suspect foul play. CW saying she is in "no trouble whatsoever covers alot, imo. I think her brother, Derek, not only believes something scared her so badly she is in hiding, but knew exactly what had scared her so badly. Did DH have time to take Brittney to the truck stop, then head to the vacant lot? Do the pings allow time for this?

Anyone know what DH's finances were? Could he have given her funds and took her to a place to get a ride that couldnt be traced, just to get her out of there and away from the fall out that was coming?

I cant help but believe Brittney knew about all of this, being so close to DH and now Derek's involvement.

I think she ran. I think she is scared and not trusting anyone. I dont blame her. I also think Buggs is spot on with the "protector" providing the weapon while he was on "vacation".

This is one of the most bizarre cases I have ever seen. I get a strange sensation that its going to get more bizarre and horrifying as it unfolds. I really hope Brittney is safe and starting over. And even as I hope for that, I know in my heart that people who will harm children will also murder for their own preservation.

I feel so badly for her dad and step mom, for her mother and daughter. If you are out there Brit, please just let them know you are safe.

I feel absolutely terrible for the young female family member who posted the lengthy comment on the older article. I also feel she will be even more disappointed in the near future. Law Enforcement does not make arrests on whims, notions or gossip. I am assured they physical evidence and sworn statements if not more. I am also extremely bothered that this person named Donnie's victim. She deserves privacy to heal.
