For what it’s worth I would like to offer my take on Sonya’s comments. Obviously I don’t know SW personally any more than I know any of the posters here.

SW has been answering and deflecting comments on the WKRG website on an ongoing basis. She is using her own identity on a public forum to address allegations . No matter how awful these allegations are nobody has been convicted so perhaps she is being cautious for legal reasons. I give her credit for tackling the truly awful things that are being said about the whole extended family. In my opinion, she is keeping her niece Brittney’s name out there in a way she feels comfortable with. I don’t remember any other close relatives apart from her Mom, Dad and Stepmum willing to put themselves on public record in writing to promote Brittney's cause on a regular basis. Quite possible that I missed it, apologies if so.

WS is a victim friendly forum.

For the record I truly abhor any crimes against children especially sexual molestation. Innocent little children being victimised in a manner that they will never recover from is utterly beyond condemnation. As a society we all have a duty to safeguard all children. It is something I am quite passionate about.

My post is not a knee-jerk reaction to anybody’s post in particular. I had been reading SW’s comments all along, wondered where she ‘was coming from?’ and this is just my opinion.

Hi y'all. It's taken me a couple days to read everything and catch up.

There were at least two comments made that I have questions about. One was about a post one of the nephews (I think) made that had to do with Geocache ( think it was). Does anyone know what that post was and if it had a pic?
The second was a post that CW made about some one leaving an ugly comment and picture on her facebook or the facebook set up for BW( I think). What does anyone know about this. I found the person who made the post from some info that was left on the site, but I don't know what the post was. Do any of you? Both of these happened in the early days of BW being missing.

Here is a link that may help you with the Geocache question.

I remember discussion about the ugly comment, but not well enough to help you with that - I don't think I ever saw the comment myself.

I just read the article above. Great reporting and details. But.. it was surely heart wrenching reading about little PH asking for Brittney every time she is picked up by her grandmother (SH).
Where are you Brittney??

I think my only point was that the continued deflecting/denial/turning a blind eye over the years by MANY in the family (not just SW) was a failure to live up to that duty and allowed an environment to exist where these horrible things can occur. It just so happened that her recent post frustrated me in that it continues to go on.

I certainly can't disagree with you on that. A lifetime of working with little children has made me aware of issues I would prefer not to have to contemplate. The abuse that goes on is shocking and unbelievable. Most of it never becomes public. So sad.

Re SW: she comes in for flak every so often and it bothered me, when she seemed to be doing her best, in my opinion. It wasn't your post specifIcally that sparked me off, although it is on this page!

The whole situation is truly frustrating and still no news of Brittney.

7/30 [BW]: Missing two months

... [CW], says her daughter left her home in Tillman's Corner on May 30 but she was expected home later that evening. ... [BBM - WHAT??? Two months go by and this info is just coming out now??? And, the parents just got concerned about BW's whereabouts after DH's suicide a day and a half later??? And, waited another day to report her has a "missing person"???]

Yes, it definitely seems, IMO, that there were many in this family overlooking not just these signs of abuse, but the behaviors everyone keeps pointing out. And while the objections may not have been made public, the denial, or allowing things to go on certain ways have been.

I certainly feel for everyone who is affected by Brittney's disappearance. Most of all her parents and especially her daughter, who could have in no way, shape or form
ever known anything like this could possibly happen to her mommy.

Brittney Wood: Missing two months
Still no sign of missing teenager

http://www.fox10tv.com/dpp/news/loca...ing-two-months

SNIP
Brittney’s mother, Chessie Wood told FOX10 News Monday about a new effort to publicize the case. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children now has the teen listed on its website.

Although the exposure may be helpful, Chessie Wood says she is losing some hope.

"I don't think my baby's alive. I just don't. I wish I could, but I don't,” said Wood.

The Mobile Police Department said they believe Brittney is alive and is just not coming forward.

"There have been a number of arrests with other family members. It is interesting; but we don't have anything right now that says that she's in any sort of trouble," said Levy.

That is such a silly statement IMO. They don't have anything that says she is in any sort of trouble? If someone does not contact their loved ones for 60 days, their mom, their dad, their child, it is highly likely the person is in some sort of trouble. In this case I certainly believe it is beyond trouble and that Brit is no longer alive, as sad as that is. I have followed to many of these cases (though few this bizarre).

What the heck are they basing their position on? I would love to see their notes, facts, interviews and reports that support "she is alive and is just not coming forward".
Are they basing this on her history of drug use, some majorly dysfunctional family members and are just chalking it up to "another messed up teen" not worth wasting their time and money"...that is what it feels like to me. There are too many coincidences. I have always been one to side with and support the PD and their behind the scenes efforts. But this sounds like they have given up looking for a missing person.

How about press conference to inform the family and the public of their progress and findings with BWs disappearance.

I think they are listening to, or listened to someones details of the events prior to and after BW's disappearance and they are blindly believing them.

Well, for that matter there isn't any sign that Katelyn Markham is "in any trouble". But LE opened a case right away and have had searches for her and TES was involved, etc...and her case is open and considered a possible crime. There is no crime scene, no witnesses, etc. I don't know why Brittney should be treated any differently.

That contradicts what was said by MPD Cpl. Chris Levy on June 22 in link below. I snipped some of his comments. btw...I am not saying...nor implying CW or HW are the ones giving questionable info. Someone is though.

snipped...
"She left with personal items with the intent of being gone at least overnight and that was not unusual,” Levy said.

snipped...
Levy added the MPD has not received any information to indicate Wood is forcibly being held captive and said friends and family has been cooperative, although they have provided some "questionable” information.

snipped...
"We’ve got some incomplete answers,”

snipped...
"That wasn’t originally reported. So there has been some back and forth. Some answers haven’t been entirely accurate,” Levy said.

snipped...
"a lot of speculation” and some misinformation
about Wood’s disappearance, leaving the family "pretty stressed and emotionally drained.”

Sadly, that's often the case. Brittney is a poor teen mom from the wrong side of the tracks. The type that's often ignored and filed away. I think that's why her case needs all the publicity it can muster. I wish we could get NG or JVM to cover her story.

It seems the majority think it's tied up with her perverted relatives and assume she met her fate there. Just like her mom seems to feel. Even if that is the case, Brittney deserves a homecoming. Maybe one of the males will cop a plea deal and tell the truth. I saw on FB that CW is asking for work so she can hire an attorney for DW. Maybe he's ready to talk.

Given up implies they ever began. My understanding is that they never had and still don't have an investigation into Brittney's disappearance.

I'm relatively new here so maybe I'm just naive, but if they don't think there are any indications that there is any foul play involved, well then I don't imagine there is a situation where an adult can go missing in Mobile that would be worthy of investigation. I too support LE and understand the strains they work under. However, they are acting like they need proof beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime was committed before they will investigate. The truth of the matter is no investigations would be started if you needed that much proof to start an investigation. Just don't get it. If you have evidence that she is somewhere, has contacted someone etc...why not release that and certainly let the family know. Short of that, I hate to say that LE is gravely mistaken to make such statements and not investigate. This is true EVEN if the evidence eventually proves LE right.

  • #757
I say this tongue in cheek because I truly do understand you don't want to publicly criticize LE when you are at the same time wanting them to look for your loved one, but my frustration levels go through the roof for some reason every time I read this thread. Anyways, my tongue in cheek thought is that I would love to see someone take out a full page ad in the paper, several papers or even a national paper, with a big bold question at the top:

NO SIGNS OF FOUL PLAY?

And then below it, list all the points that raise suspicions that foul play was involved. I bet I could come up with 40 or so myself.

  • #758
I just have to say....OF COURSE SHE PACKED AN OVERNIGHT BAG...she was planning on going somewhere....i just don't think she planned on something going wrong IMO unfortunately, I think something went very, very wrong!

Has anyone here been following the Mickey Shunick case? Ive been following it loosely.. but I do know the sex offender they arrested was driving a white pick up truck.

Hasnt a white pick up truck been mentioned here somewhere?

Is the truck stop where her last ping was from located off of I10?

Any chance this creep could have also gotten Brittney??? Im hearing rumors he is a serial killer.

Just some thoughts to throw out there.

BBM

That's the part that brings tears to my eyes. It is the reason I was drawn to Brittney's case in the first place. It is so unfair. Thank you for putting it into words. I don't know how within TOS.

I doubt we would ever even have heard of Brittney if Klass Kids had not been involved.
