I hope derek is still with his father and step-mom and they can give him the guidance and stability he needs to tell ALL of the truth. Brittney and all the other children in this family need him to shine a light on what is and was being done to these children. He can be a protector to all of them in that way.

But isnt Derek charged with these crimes also?
I saw some of the pics he took of Brit and his GF and they were not very nice!

He cant be predator and protector!

Yes Eileen, Derek has been charged with sex crimes. It's in MSM. The fact is it's time for Derek to be a protector. It is time for HIM to break this cycle! Let's just hope and pray that he can do that. Let's not talk about the cycle being broken and not support the ones that could actually do just that!! MOO

I am so saddened and disgusted by everything Brittney had to live with that I can't even out my thoughts in works. I have been reading but needed to step away for a bit.

I agree with all comments that the adults knew what was happening, they should ask be arrested, and that no punishment is severe enough.

I hope the focus elsewhere goes on Dustin Kent. His family has the most to lose (especially since the Wood sisters and their online activities have managed to drag themselves further thru the mud than anyone else). I am sure his family would do anything possible to avoid having their name further tarnished by negative publicity. IMO it would put alot of pressure to locate Brittney just to quiet anyone from scrutinizing Dustin.

Yes their mother should have been the protector but, it's obvious she wasn't. The change is going to have to be in that younger generation. I am praying it's not too late for Derek. I'm not sure if it is too late or not for him to break the cycle. I am going to pray that it stops with him and the other children that have also been abused. If Derek can realize what he has been taught is wrong and he gets help then I will support him to the fullest.

The truth may come out if Derek is offered a plea deal. He is much younger than the others, so if he comes clean about what he knows, and how he got involved, he could get a lesser sentence.

All the adults in that family had to know there was something going on, so there is going to be pressure from everyone to keep quiet and deny everything.

Hopefully, LE have already gathered enough evidence from the person who confessed, as well as the victim/s.

My fear is that it was DK who confessed, and will claim that he has some kind of mental disorder and was pressured into doing so. I could be way off base here as well, not knowing Alabama law, but I would imagine a lot of what you're talking of may have some relevancy in the punishment phase of a trial but I don't believe it is a permissible defense in the guilt phase of the law suit. Any Alabama lawyers lurking that can answer?

Please allow me to introduce myself, since I guess its time to break my "lurker" silence and thank you all for the amazing sleuthing you have done. The only reason i have waited so long is that I haven't felt i have had anything helpful to say that hasn't been said before am a 25 yo graduate student in NOLA. First became a member in early June to keep up w the Jaren Lockhart case bc she was kidnapped a few blocks from where I live; then Mickey Schunick bc I am an alumni of her University; but the Brittney Woods case has drew me in bc I lived in near her area growing up (Dauphin Island) for a couple years, and I also made of the poor choices she had made when I was 19. Fortunately God blessed me w a way to break free of my destructive patterns before it was too late. It breaks my heart that her case is not getting the attention it deserves! brittney is a 19 yo girl who has been exposed to who only knows what kind of horrors.. Nobody chooses their family!! I haven't posted yet ob WBS but I do follow the cases and support her family on FB. So I guess this is to simoly say hello all, thanks for all of the work you've done, and my hearts and prayers are in the same place as yours!

I can't help but feel that Derek was abused, and that all of the children in this family have suffered horrors we can only imagine.

I personally have no idea what it was like for any of these children who grew up in an environment where sex between children was encouraged and the adults approved of it. I also believe there is hope for Derek, that he can help with this case and shine a light on all the ugliness.

DK, WWH, MWK, SW and DH ALLLLLL knew what was happening.. they all participated. They forever skewed the thinking process for every child they were trusted to protect.

There are too many people who have gone through what is even speculated Derek went through who do not in turn commit the same crime. So, as far as any he crimes he may have committed, no, I have no sympathy in the sense that it exculpates him from his crimes, though at the same time I can feel bad for him for having gone through whatever he went through if what is speculated is true.

Thats the problem I have, there were no boundaries for a child to know what they possibly like is horribly wrong. Please dont think Im giving him some kind of free pass. Just trying to understand the dynamics of this mess. Its not even like there is only one perp.. they had a whole group of family members, apparently adored family members, grooming them their whole lives. There is no evidence that DW was abused. There is no evidence that Brittney was abused. There is no evidence of foul play. But IMO it is obvious to the most casual observer that all are probably true.
