Were KlaasKIDS actually at the actual site where the bones were found? If so I wonder why. I'm sure they don't head publicly out on just the tiniest possibility but now that we have the ID I'm not sure why they would be in the area.

Yes, KlaasKIDS were there, and I think that's what originally got my hopes up that Brittney had finally been found (of course, my greatest hope is that she is alive...). :(

Maybe it was because of LE's original opinion that the bones were small, and because klaaskids seem very committed to bringing Brittney home?

Brittney has such dedicated people on her side, especially on this thread, I'm sure she must be found soon. I'd just like to say thank you to all the posters here who have worked so hard in so many ways; from boots on the ground to getting news the minute it breaks, for those of us who are far away.

You're brilliant. Thank you.*

Right...I think the location of the remains (in the midst of BW's stomping grounds) and the fact that the bones were "small" is why they were there. From what I know, though, it's pretty easy to tell on site in most cases if skeletal remains are male or female. Maybe at that point, they hadn't found the pelvic area, etc...

I echo your kudos to all who care about BW and want to search for her. If it were me...I would not want to be forgotten. I would want someone to care about me. I would want someone to look for me. I would want someone to find me, no matter how long it took. Most of all...I would just not want to be forgotten: disappeared and never thought of again.

I can't agree more about not allowing Brittney to just be forgotten. Especially as she has a child. I hate to think of a child being sentenced to a lifetime of wondering what happened, and where Mom is. That is just so, so unfair.

I just hope she will be found soon, and I believe she will be. I don't know if it will be from information or people on the ground though. I think probably the latter.

I can honestly say i do not think Britt will ever be forgotten. At least not by me. I wish LE had put more into her case, that the reward was higher, and so many other things.

I know Britt has people looking for her, even if her own mother isn't and all of us here care enough to keep checking in. I hope she is found and that the people that truly love her can get closure.

What a roller coaster. And still we are wondering, where is Brittney?

  • #526
I am just wondering - the person who found the skull with the bullet wound, it would have been very good to know if they had seen something about Brittney being missing (one of her flyers or something) and had been deliberately keeping their eye out for anything.

I would find that very reassuring, that word is really getting out there. The flyer asking hunters to look out for her was klaaskid's idea, wasn't it? I wish the info about the bag she may have been carrying had been a little clearer too. I think there was a bit of confusion about that, If I remember correctly. It's the sort of thing that might last on the ground though and could easily be spotted by someone and picked up.

It's just ensuring the person who may see it, knows how important it is.

Does anyone know how rewards are set up? Does the money go into a special account, or is it held by an attorney or someone?

I could imagine some people being reluctant to donate if they had to provide name and bank details to family in this case, with so many members facing charges.

I think it would be like in most cases where you can go to a bank and donate without giving up your info to anyone but the bank? I am not too sure on how it usually works. But, in Britts case IIRC- the official reward money is safe from any sticky fingers.

Any money collected on the side though, well.... i guess people just need to be careful Who they give donations to. I'm sure certain family members are the reason her reward isn't higher, I hate to think of anyone giving donations and those donations not making it to the official account. That is very sad.

I wonder if someone (in prison or out on bail) will finally spill the beans about what happened to her. Life in prison is a pretty scary prospect. It might take a plea deal to find out what happened, even if it means less jail time for some of these a-holes....

I'm jumping back in after a couple of weeks. I really am growing concerned that something has happened to Britt. Originally I thought it was highly probable that she got tired of her family and their secrets so she took off. As the weeks go by and she child grows without her it makes less and less sense to me.

I hope her family gets some closure sooner than later.

Does anyone recall how long it took from the time the remains were found until they had an ID? Were they able to use dental records?

TIA!

Are you asking about the remains that were found on Dep Busby Road?
If so, the skull was found on Tuesday, March 4. ID was announced 10 days later on Thursday, March 14.

Officials with the sheriff’s office said they plan to look through open missing persons cases and try to match dental records and any possible clothing or belongings that were found in the debris.

Sorry guys, I get mixed up with place names. Is this the deceased person we are awaiting results on?

Old article, by the way!! Don't get alerted!

We are still waiting on this ID:
http://blog.al.com/live/2013/02/human_skull_remains_discovered.html
Captain Steve Arthur with BCSO said the skull "appeared to have an injury consistent with a bullet hole," Local 15 reported. Arthur said the "fairly weathered" remains were found off Lizard Creek and Mobile River, just inside the Baldwin County line by the General WK Wilson Bridge, also known as the Dolly Parton Bridge.

Most likely not Britt - IMO

It's all so sad with these bodies seemingly popping up everywhere. I do have one question for those close to the case. How was Brittney going to pay for her orthodontist appointment? As far as we knew she didn't have any income and orthodontic treatments are quite expensive. My dentist required money up front. Could this have been why she went to visit Uncle Donnie?

"Alabama Medicaid does not cover routine orthodontic care including braces unless considered medically necessary for children with cleft lip/palate and/or other severe facial and cranial abnormalities."
http://www.chacha.com/question/will-alabama-medicaid-pay-for-braces

Forgive me for bumping up my own post. :blushing: The conversation got a little derailed with political comments.

I'd like to ask the locals again (or any other posters opinions) if they know how Brittney planned to pay for her orthodontist appointment. My thoughts are - it may shed some light on her state of mind before her disappearance. If she needed orthodontic care and was unable to pay for it, what steps might she take to secure some money? Who would she go to for a loan?

IIRC Brittney was basically homeless and unemployed. Her immediate and extended family all have financial woes of their own, as do many these days. How did she plan to pay for her treatment? :waitasec:

I have no idea how Brittney planned to pay for an orthodontist appointment. I will tell you that I took my child to an orthodontist in Baldwin County 3 weeks ago for an evaluation and was not charged one cent. That is fact.

I'm not close to the case, but I am in Alabama. Because Brittney was 19 she very well may have been covered by something we have here called "All Kids" that is available to kids 19 and under. To qualify for these benefits her parents or guardians would have to be disqualified for medicaid but still within income parameters considered 'low income'. The 'All Kids' plan is administered through Blue Cross Blue Shield and it does provide for dental care. I would think it's rather likely she was covered in this way because the medicaid limits are fairly hard to qualify for if there is any earned income at all by parents. The range of people I know that have been able to cover their kids on All Kids is broad, from nearly destitute to average suburban middle class.
The other possibility is that there are several places, in fact one of them is not all that far from her Uncle Donny's place, that people call "clinics" and they offer dental services (orthodontics ?) at a greatly reduced rate and their charges are dependent upon the patients income. I can't really remember exactly what the cost is for someone with no income at all, but it's something like $30, I know it's less than $65. There are all kinds of different resources for girls like Brittney, having been tossed into the system when having her daughter she would've likely been aware of what was available to her so she didn't necessarily need $ or need a personal loan. In fact, most orthodontist will hook you up with a company that does loans for medical and dental procedures and while she may not have had an income at the moment she still may have had decent credit to be approved for such a loan. I think I remember something about her having a new (or a new to her) car? She probably had to finance that which would have jump started her credit, she may have had credit cards too. When I was 19, granted that was a long time ago, but back then when someone turned 18 or enrolled in college or financed a car they immediately started receiving per-approved credit cards in the mail. She very well may have even been in debt up to her eyeballs. I've known more than a few kids her age that would literally live on their credit cards at various points between work and/or while going to school.
Ok, I'm sure I could've said all that in a LOT less words. D'oh!

Where are you Britt?

Friday night my route took me through the area, and you cant help but to look around at the terrain. Naturally my only views were in the dark and from the interstate, but going past the exit for "Tillmans Corner" and then following on to the truck stop exit (no I did not stop, never do and never will, that place is BAD) her phone pinged from sure just makes you sit in silence as you drive and try to imagine just what went on at the time she went missing.

The interstate is under some heavy construction, and it is fishing season, I hope that between those two things going on that perhaps some answers may be found. Its been way too long. I still hold on to hope that she cut out of there and is out here on the road somewhere, I still look into all the faces of the girls I see along my routes hoping that one may be her, or any of the other missing that we see reports on, but something just touches my heart when it comes to Britt. I want to think that she just got the heck out of dodge and that once all the smoke clears from the court ordeals in her family that she will surface.
or...
I just want to think that she in a safe house somewhere being taken care of. And if that is the case that someone helped her get into one of those she could stay and no one would know because they do not release names of people that are staying in those places.

I am still holding on to hope that she is just hiding out and staying away from her family and getting herself together.

The weather is starting warm up some and a lot of the homeless are starting to migrate more north again. I have noticed that in the past week or two. So perhaps with this warmer weather, and also people getting outdoors more and doing things we will soon have some answers.
