Sounds like it got towed almost right away — long before the vehicle description was released. So people weren’t looking for the car yet. The tow guy apparently later saw the news and put it together though?

My Mama is 5 1-1/2 on a good day so I know what it's like to stand out from an early age. Unless you personally are outside a norm, how can you know. They say his brother is 5'10". What a shrimp...LOL

My sister, who is also a WebSleuths member but doesn't post often, posits the following theory:

Could Vicky have rented a private plane from a rural airstrip, in the vicinity of where the Ford was abandoned?

At first, I was skeptical about that idea...but the more I think about it, the more I think it might have legs. Would make travel for them much easier...but then, where would they land? And if it required international travel, how would Casey White get a valid Passport? Unless it was at someplace like the Bahamas...or Bermuda...but wouldn't some sort of ID still be needed, even there? Unless Vicky had the foresight to arrange a fake ID for him, as well.

Interesting idea, though.

I think it's a huge ( no pun...) negative for Casey. Its so easy to disguise one's face and hair and there are still some wearing masks which can be a huge bonus for a perp. But it's harder to disguise 6'9" and he would most definitely catch my attention. I also think that's a huge plus for Vicki - he's got a reason for keeping her alive - he needs her to run out and buy beer and cigarettes so he's not noticed.

I also think they are both dead. I think it was a Romeo & Juliet situation. I say that because they would never have been able to be together with him in prison, and VW was knowledgeable enough to know they’d never stay hidden forever. There is no way she expected to actually receive her retirement. Where would they send it? How would she get it? But if she applied for it, but then passed away it might have gone to her mom. I know it’s not likely. But with my state government pension, if I died before I retire, nothing goes to a beneficiary. However, if I die after I retire, my spouse receives my retirement for up to ten years. There’s lot more to it, just trying to give the idea of why she might have claimed retirement even though she was disappearing.

I think to make sure he had clothes once he was out. He needed them.

MO, this is a really important point. Initially he needed clothes to change into out of his jail stripes. VW must have purchased at least a few items of clothing before the escape.
The unique part is that you need to go to really specialty clothing stores to purchase clothing for a man that is 6"9", most stores don't stock anything near that size.

1) I wonder if filing the paperwork for her retirement was a back up plan. If things went sideways she could claim that she was kidnapped and forced to let him go on the drive to the courthouse. Admittedly not a good plan, as there was no doctors appointment. And clearly she has a radio in the car and knows now that the police know she is involved via news reports. But perhaps this was the thinking prior to this plan to break out an inmate.

The doctors appointment was actually real, because they followed up and found out she never showed, so this is a good idea, that maybe it was her backup plan if they got caught immediately.

I knew of two women in good positions in Correctional Services of Canada who got involved with inmates and quit their job to do so. Although the scenario was different and it was plans made after the inmates were released, the outcome was not pleasant for either women. One had the inmate move in with her and ended up beaten very badly by him and the other one lost it when her inmate boyfriend continued his past criminal activities and brought her down with him. I think considering the differences in background, education and values and beliefs, things are not going to work out for the Whites. Hopefully, he spares her life.

I believe that Casey White lived, in his earlier years, in middle Tennessee. Don't have a link for this, but maybe Daily Mail: What we know about Casey White (or whatever title), might give some info.

I just double-checked that and you are right that she did have a doctor's appointment. However, I could swear that is NOT what we read in earlier articles. It gets confusing!

makes you wonder, right?

Another possible scenario:

1) VW attempts to spray paint the orange vehicle to a green color, prior to The Escape, but gives up for some reason unknown.

2) Within two hours of The Escape, VW parks vehicle in a ridiculously conspicuous area of a Tennessee town. Unlocked. Their RV is around the corner, within walking distance. VW and CW drive off in their RV.

3) Unsuspecting Car Thief, thinking its his lucky day, finds vehicle, jumps in, and rides happily away.

4) A short time later, UCT hears about the alert, and the massive multi-state manhunt, ....and realizes that HE is in THE get-away vehicle of the NOTORIOUS prison escape in Alabama.

5) UCT ....FREAKS OUT, and in panic-mode, abandons the vehicle in the middle of a local road, ..... of course, MAKING SURE TO LOCK THE DOOR, and then, runs home.

6) Vehicle impounded.


Everything else is so bizarre about this case, .... why not this wrinkle too?

The orange car, IMO, was a decoy. Left where it would get towed STAT. Paint attempt, IMO, in the hopes of it getting lost in the sea of impound, while the world kept looking for the orange car.

They probably called the stalled car in themselves.

Laughing as they sped back the direction they came, in a nondescript vehicle, on their merry way.
