Family of missing Hamilton woman holding out hope Chasity Terry is still alive

The search for the missing 39-year-old Hamilton woman continues as her family holds out hope that Chasity Terry is still alive.

“I love her, and I miss her, and I want her to come home, and I hope that she sees this,” said Courtney Posey, Terry’s daughter, Wednesday.

Marion County Sheriff Kevin Williams said Terry was in an orange Jeep with Charles Williams Jr., and that the two had driven to the Birmingham area to purchase narcotics before being spotted on video surveillance exiting a Love’s gas station store in Jasper early Friday morning. Law enforcement does not have video from the parking lot, however.

Video from the Love's Truck Stop in Jasper shows Terry with Charles David Williams Jr. on January 10 around 2 a.m. Law enforcement believed the pair drove westbound on I-22. Williams's vehicle, an orange Jeep, ended up in a ditch on Exit 22.

A winter storm came through the area early Friday morning.

According to court documents, Williams drove Terry to Birmingham to purchase narcotics.

Local law enforcement saw Williams getting out of the Jeep around 4:30 a.m. on January 10. Terry was not with Williams at that time. Aside from Williams' statement, it is unclear if Terry was still in the vehicle when it reached Exit 22 or if she walked in the area law enforcement searched.

Williams was booked into the Marion County Jail on Sunday, January 12, for conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime. He was officially arrested on January 14. Wednesday, Williams's bond was increased to $7,500. It was initially set at $5,000 on Monday at his first court appearance, according to Sheriff Williams.

I saw a missing persons poster for her on the door of a local restaurant I went to last weekend (her hometown is maybe 2 hours from me). I made a thread about her because I could not find one on here; I put in a mod request to merge our threads.

I am interested in why this is being investigated as a possible homicide. The details sort of make it sound like she wandered off from somewhere (either the Jeep after a crash or somewhere else) while probably in a drug haze. MOO.

In many states there is an offense called drug-induced homicide. Although this crime has more in common with the offense of involuntary manslaughter, which is charged when the defendant did not mean to kill anyone, it is considered a form of murder and is considered more serious than involuntary manslaughter.

The state would need to show that the person charged supplied the drugs that caused the victim’s death. It does not matter whether the drugs were given, sold, or shared from their own stash with the person who died, the state must also show that it was specifically the drugs you provided that caused the victim’s death. An exception would involve the “good Samaritan immunity defense” which is a law that states that if you call 911 to seek help for the person who was overdosing, state law grants you immunity from prosecution for drug-induced homicide or other possession-related charges. This law was designed to prevent unnecessary drug-related deaths by encouraging anyone who witnesses a potentially fatal overdose to seek emergency assistance that might save the victim’s life. Unfortunately, the person(s) such involved may be not thinking coherently enough to consider this and act accordingly.

I remember PommyMommy starting a thread for this a while back. I think this is it - if someone knows how to alert a mod to merge the two. AL - AL - Chastity Ann Terry, 39, Hamilton, 9 Jan 2025 *A vehicle connected to the case was impounded and its operator is in custody*
Just click REPORT on bottom left of post and in the description box ask them to merge the two threads.
