Sure seems he was laying low, possibly hiding from someone. Just terrible, did ME run a tox screen I wonder. Godspeed Chih-Kai, prayers for his family, they must be devistated. Just a shame for the loss of this young man, just starting out in life.MOO

Auburn University grad student missing since August found dead in shed; no foul play suspected
"Lai, a graduate student studying computer science, arrived in the U.S. from Taiwan on July 24, 2019. He last communicated with a family member on Saturday, Aug. 17. He was reported missing two days later by a member of the Auburn Taiwanese Student Association after he failed to report to a scheduled class on campus. Police said detectives discovered video surveillance of Lai at a restaurant in the 300 block of West Magnolia Avenue in Auburn the day before he was reported missing.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Lai was positively identified through fingerprints. Though Lai was last seen on Aug. 18, authorities said, an autopsy showed he had only been dead for a matter of days. Foul play is not suspected.

Auburn University released this statement Friday: “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Chih-Kai Lai. He will always be a member of the Auburn Family, and we mourn his loss.”

To think that Chih-Kai was still alive while we have been posting on his missing person thread, is unnerving.
But it does go to show, that even months after someone has disappeared, there could and should be hope that the person may still be alive.
Sadly in this case, Chih-Kai apparently hid in plain sight before he was finally located, too bad that it was too late to save him.
imo, speculation.

Did the person who owned the property know he was living in the shed?
