Instead of locking away law abiding citizens, maybe locking away criminals and keeping them locked up, would make a difference. I don't know if the suspect in this case has a prior criminal history, but far too often violent criminals do, and they're still walking among us, free to do as they please.
Well said!

"The suspected murderer was previously arrested in December 2023 in Virginia on a weapons charge involving a sawed-off shotgun, WRBL reported. His only known other court appearance was in 2016 for a speeding ticket in Montgomy..."

Today's update, bbm

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the suspect accused of murdering former university professor Dr. Julee Gard Schnuelle....The announcement came Monday as Rashad Dabney III, 28, appeared in court, charged with two counts of capital murder — murder during a kidnapping and murder during a robbery.

Investigators believe Schnuelle, a 59-year-old retired veterinarian and professor at Alabama’s Auburn University, was ambushed by a stranger Saturday morning on a trail in Auburn’s Kiesel Park...The mom was then dragged several hundred feet off the main path into a wooded area, where she was stabbed multiple times...

Evidence directly tied Dabney to the crime scene, according to the report, which did not elaborate
.

"Authorities have not said what led to the attack. It is also unclear if Dabney personally knew Schnuelle – who is understood to have visited the park daily – or if he targeted her at random."

Evil is what led to this attack. Pure evil. The same evil that led to the attack in Charlotte. The same one.

As far as motive...stealing her truck still makes zero sense. People have said he was polite, had been in the Auburn area for a while. Stopped at a local gas station and bummed a cigarette before walking to the park (not confirmed). My opinion is he had a major psychotic break. I'm concerned his defense will claim she startled him in the woods and he panicked. Because why did he stay in the area, on foot, for almost 24 hours after the murder? I understand details are tight but something just seems odd about this. The park is literally not in a bad area, has frequent dog walkers and a wedding was being set up when the murder happened. I just hope they have a rock solid case against him. He didn't have a violent criminal history here and it just seems really odd for him kill only to drive the truck a few miles away and ditch it. Her body was found around 2, murder happened around 10 am so he would've had a solid head start to get away. Just my opinion and thoughts tonight

I am local as well, and I agree that stealing the truck being his motive makes zero sense because he only drove the truck a few miles before dumping it, and then he was found walking a few miles away from that. So what is the motive?! As for “kidnapping” - one article said she was “ambushed” and moved a few hundred yards into the woods and stabbed to death. I’m having trouble finding the link to the article now, but I have a screenshot of it I can post.

I'm thankful for Aniah's Law!
Something is just odd about this entire thing! APD said no immediate danger knowing a killer was on the run during a home game. And APD hasn't made a public statement! I work with a local reporter sometimes and the release of information was very tight. Suspect was living off 14, stopped at the 14 grocery and bummed a cigarette and then went to the park allegedly. He could've been gone by the time her body was found. So it's just strange in my opinion

"The suspect in the brutal murder of a beloved college professor
was previously charged with a gun-related felony,
but soft prosecutors let him avoid jail time,
it has been revealed.

According to court records,
the alleged would-be killer was handed a lenient deal where he pleaded guilty to several misdemeanors
if prosecutors dropped the felony charge,
which would have resulted in a prison sentence of two-to-10 years if convicted.

He was instead handed a sentence of 12 months unsupervised probation,
which would have ended nine months before
he allegedly killed Schnuelle this month."

Well this is horrifying. If her car was driven away by a potential assailant that makes me wonder if her attacker was known to her. Similarly that the dog was unharmed (poor pup).
Please forgive -- I am trying to catch up to this horrible situation...
If the suspect knew her, perhaps taking her truck wouldn't be a Big Deal, but if the vehicle was taken just because it was available, that person is just asking for trouble. SMH.

Don't stay home because of crimes like this. I mean, we could slip in the shower in our own bathroom and get severely injured too. Live life, but as wisely as possible. Most important thing, imo, is to raise children not to hurt others.

And never walk alone -- even if you have a dog -- of course there are dogs who are very willing to defend their owner.
Prayers and/or soothing thoughts for those who knew and loved her. Auburn U. took a big hit when they lost her.

Looks like I was incorrect

And never walk alone --
However, judging by the cases on Websleuths, never get married (because your spouse will murder you), never have children, (because your in-laws or new partner will have you murdered murder them), and especially don't be an attractive blond (because someone will stab you to death as you sleep, among innumerable other things that might happen - you're basically walking around with a target on your back)...
