I am glad they are starting to find some of the bodies. Like many others, I had hoped that the children were safe somewhere and not in the water. My continued prayers for this family - what a terrible, terrible situation.
My very dearest Believe,:blowkiss:Dear DS-
What a tragic, horrifying story-I appreciate your strength in sharing it.
So do you sterilize a woman who trades her child for a car to people who were clearly lacking in what was needed to cherish and protect that baby? The fact that she has had the freedom to commit more crimes speaks volumes as to how much the criminal justice system valued your tiny angel of a relative.
My very dearest SewingDeb,:blowkiss:I feel the same way D_S. I am so sorry you have this sorrow to bear because of your relative's selfishness and lack of maternal instinct and because no one took the reports of abuse seriously.

I don't blame you for distancing yourself from Raina. No one would want a relative like that and it's a good thing your cousin did not marry her.
You are always welcome.
My very dearest Believe,:blowkiss:
Thank-you very much for your post.
Yes, they should be sterilized. Period. Women who have no regard for human life, the lives of their own children should be made to have their tubes tied. Sorry to be so blunt but that is the way that I feel.
Some may see my thinking as inhumane. Well my relative died an inhumane death and her prior abuse was reported and not prevented.
So much Love and Respect for you,

Hi, I'm newly registered, but I've been a lurker for months. From all the local coverage and watching an interview with the mother, I gleaned that she thought he was telling the truth at first

My cousin's ex-girlfriend traded their daughter for a car. My cousin was not living with Raina at the time that she traded Alexis.
Alexis was said to have been put up for sale many times before. For drugs or money. Several of the people that she was said to have approached stated that Raina did not want Alexis and frequently called her names in front of others. Raina denied all of it.
Raina also had a six-year-old son with her. After Alexis passed away, the son was taken into protective custody.
Many people called to SRS and complained about Raina. The calls were not followed up on. There were 4 complaints in a 10 day span. 3 more were made shortly after.
One of those calls was made by Raina's probation officer. Another call was made by my fellow Correctional Officer because she was committing new crimes.
Yes Raina was on probation also. She had missed 2 probation appointments.
Raina gave Alexis to a couple that she was friends with on an apparent temporary basis and in trade for a car and $500.00. That was stated by Raina's relative. The couple could not have children of their own.
Walter was on parole at the time and under house arrest.
Walter and his wife had Alexis for less than a month after the arrangement. Alexis was brought to the emergancy room and the couple told workers there that the dog had knocked her over. Workers knew that was not the case when they attended to Alexis.
It was determined that Alexis suffered "shaken baby syndrome" and she was in critical condition.
Little Alexis was 16 months old when this happened.
Alexis entered the hospital on wednesday March 4th in the afternoon and lived until friday morning.
Her funeral was on the 8th and well over 200 people attended. Detectives that worked on the case attended her funeral. Raina was there and also my cousin, he had to be escorted by my fellow Correctional Officers because he was incarcerated at the facility that I was working at.
Raina has been in and out of jail since that happened. She is currently incarcerated for a DUI that happened in July of 2007.
Sorry for being so long winded. My heart still hurts and always will.
Respectfully,
