Shalinda Glass entered a guilty plea Wednesday into the 2006 killing of her 5-year-old son Geontae. She has been sentenced to life in prison. Investigators say Shalinda's boyfriend, Kevin Towles, beat Geontae to death after he came home with a bad school report. Prosecutors say Shalinda did nothing to stop the beating.

Towles' previous conviction was thrown out due to what the court said was improper testimony.

Part of today's status hearing dealt with when a retrial might take place. While May was mentioned as a possible start time, Millican said there several capital cases scheduled for this year...

In its decision last year, the state Supreme Court ruled that, in the previous trial, the testimony of Towles' 15-year-old son about a beating he received prejudiced the case, in that it did not prove Towles meant to kill his son during the beating that took his life.

Thursday, Kevin Andre Towles was convicted of murdering Geontae Glass in 2006. He was found guilty of beating Geontae to death and then, with the boy's mother, trying to cover up the crime with a fake kidnapping claim.

Jurors deliberated for two hours in the guilt phase, but took only one hour to decide that Towles deserved to die for the brutal beating death of a child.

Gadsden man sentenced to die in slaying of girlfriend's son

An east Alabama man has been sentenced to die in the slaying of his girlfriend's 5-year-old son.

The Gadsden Times reports Kevin Andre Towles was sentenced on a capital murder charge Tuesday in the 2006 death of Geontae Glass.

Towles was convicted and sentenced to death in 2009, but the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals sent the case back to Etowah County court for a retrial because of concerns over witness testimony.
