Human skull found in wooded area of rural Alabama

Police are investigating after a hunter discovered a human skull in a heavily wooded area near Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Investigators are searching the remote area for more human remains after retrieving the skull early Sunday afternoon, and officials said it appeared to have been there for some time. The discovery was made on Alabama Highway 69 North, near the Walker County line, where the woods are so thick they aren't accessible by vehicle, Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes commander Capt. Gary Hood said.

Little else is known about the discovery, apart from the fact that is has shaken the small Southern town. The area where the skull was found is located near a roadside pit stop, T's Korner store, where clerk and cook Emily Graggs told Tuscaloosa News that it's "sad" that remains were nearby all this time.

I did not find a thread for him, but Scott Key is the closest missing person geographically that I see. He is missing from Oakman: The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

We don't know exact location of remains yet but the second pin point is near the Walker county line on HWY 69:
Google Maps

It's about 9.5 miles from Oakman.

(I'll go create a thread for Mr Key now)

ETA: AL - AL - Scott Allen Key, 45, Oakman, 25 Apr 2009
Your always on top of it Gardener

Carrie was the first person I thought of when I heard about this. I remember going on a search party when this first happened. I hope for her family's sake they can find answers. I am providing a link to the Tuscaloosa News. Probably the same information as the AL.com link. The Tuscaloosa News

Skull found in February belonged to missing man
Investigators have said a skull found in a wooded area near the Tuscaloosa-Walker County line in February belonged to a man who was reported missing in 2015.

James Handley's family reported him missing in April 2015, said Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit commander Lt. Jack Kennedy.

Wildly speculating: can this be connected to Ibraheem Yazeed, Aniah Blanchard, the murdered rappers and/or Lakira Goldsmith?
It's less than 2 hours away by car.

I think the post above from @Sweetsbeach above is indicating this thread is solved?

If that is the case, we should ask a mod to mark it.

Was literally thinking the same thing, but wasn't Aniah's situation more of a "crime of passion" or something along those lines since she was involved with her murderer?

Denton Hill, Jordan Wilson, Janice Massey are also missing from the Empire area and are believed to have ties to the Eric Cates, Randy Hicks, Justin Denny, and the Phillips and Turner murders. Hayden Mayberry was recently located, the Thompson man is still missing.
