Maybe the mom can take him? I would really hate to see a dog like Buck end up in a shelter.
Moo..I suppose Buck would probably have a lot of parents who want a loyal dog for their child..so Buck will be ok. But Buck has just gone through a lot...even dogs need support sometimes..he was a very good faithful dog to John John..moo

Sincere condolences to his family.

I have a hunch his mother did everything she could to protect her children and something like this was her worst fear. The kids weren't in a safe place for those "5 days of visitation" if explosions had occurred on the property and meth could be found.

And his faithful doggo stayed with him all this time.
I think we all knew this was the likely outcome, and it's heartbreaking.
My prayers are with his mother, and his older brother who will likely have a hard time believing this wasn't his fault.
I hope that his father will get the help he needs as he sits in prison.

Sad story all around. RIP little man.

Awe dang it. This was not the outcome anyone wanted. Thanks to Buck, a good good boy, for staying with John John faithfully until he was located. Prayers for family and especially Johnathan's big brubbie, IB. Many many prayers for him as he absorbs this news and what it means. Just a terrible loss for everyone involved.

Moo..I kinda wish they had let the father be part of the search instead of locking him away. The father has a relationship with the dog...the dog might of come to him..moo
I am sure there will be many shoulda coulda wouldas involved in the debriefing of this search but I do understand that LE had to search the property first as the location little guy went missing from and that circumstances they did not create required that they clear that property appropriately of potentially dangerous elements found there so that they could do so.

This is a very sad day for all involved and I will hold those tasked with this search in my prayers as well as the family.

Thank you.
He must have grown attached to Johnathan very quickly to stay with him <3
IMO.
The boys lived in the area with their mom before they moved a year ago. Buck may have e neen around since they were born

A volunteer doing a grid search discovered John John’s body near a creek in a wooded area about two miles from his father’s home in the Thach community.

BBM above
I do wonder how far out the search was the first day and how long John had been at this spot. So incredibly sad.

I hadn't realized that Buck could have known Jon, Jon since birth and hadn't seen him in a year! Of course he wouldn't leave his side!

things that stood out to me from the presser

2 hour delay in reporting after big brother told dad Johnathan went beyond fence line

neighbors reporting explosions in recent days but not knowing exactly where they were taking place or the cause

5 days a year visitation
EDIT - NOOOOOOO I commented before it was posted that he's gone 😭

Just catching up so I might edit

Ack.

Whilst I can attempt to explain the two hours delay in calling LE - It's possible that father thought he could catch up with the little lad himself and was out searching. Possible that father was spooked because he knows he cosplays as some sort of Rambo on his land, so he was out searching and moving some of his boom sticks? I dunno, but there's reasons. Out in the sticks like that I can imagine a parent would immediately go look themself as they know the land better than anybody...

What feel a big ack about though is the 5 days of visitation A YEAR! That's nothing. This little tyke isn't in any way familiar with the terrain or surroundings, I doubt he's even very familiar with his own father and nor is he with the little one! This concerns me. I'm not fully sold on hinkeydink yet (not enough details) but this is at least negligence on the father's part. Pipe bombs all over his land for whatever reason indicates to me that he's not exactly an "experienced father" 😑

I do hope so hard that the pooch is with the little one. The dog is used to the land. I am wondering though if the lab followed the kid who went under the fence, or if it was the other way around and he followed the dog.

I hate this.

I suspect this dad will see his visitation days reduced to zero.

I just knew Buck was going to stay with him. I've had Labs and Shepherds my whole life. They LOVE children and will protect them with their own lives. I am so glad he stuck by Johnathon, Bless His Heart,
