GUILTY AL - Kamden Johnson, 5, dies in hot day care van, Mobile, 21 Aug 2017 *Arrest*

I'm so sorry Kamden looked such a happy and handsome young man. May he Rest In Peace. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Wow he's a beauty. And what an intelligent little face. Only five!! What an extraordinary loss.

Such a precious angel of a boy. To have had his life taken away from him far too soon. Our precious children should be guarded and protected from harm. They should be nurtured, and loved, and treated as though they are the valuable gifts from God that they are. What happened that could have let this senseless tragedy occur. There is no good reason, there is no acceptable excuse. :tears:

aren't they supposed to do background checks?

If it's state licensed, I would think so. In Texas, yes. I don't know about other state laws.

whats with all the van shuffling? this was also the issue in the other recent daycare death.

Interesting isn't it? It's one thing to go to day care. It's another shuffling these poor children from one day care to another? That just doesn't seem right to me. And then they hire a person with an extensive criminal background to do it? :stormingmad:

BBM

If that's what happened here, I'm sure she was familiar with other cases in the news. Otherwise, why go to that length to cover up a child's accidental death unless she knew the consequences in other cases? Being so much aware of the risk, why was she not more conscientious then? She could've avoided the consequences to begin with and not felt a need to cover up the consequences of her actions. And a family would not be grieving the loss of their beloved son/brother.

It does seem there are people who consistently don't consider beforehand the consequences of their actions yet thrive on covering up after themselves. MOO

It's my understanding that she was to take him directly from the one day care to another. So when did she leave him in the vehicle for that length of time. What was going on ?
Oh, this makes me so sick and angry.

ETA: apologies for so many consecutive posts, I'm just catching up.

One thing that's so noticeable about his smile---his eyes are happy and match the smile. How many kids do we see here who have smiles but sadness in their eyes.
This gorgeous boy had joy in his eyes and his smile---and it is so sad that it ended so tragically. It does help to know that he was so loved and cared for. Such a tragedy. :rose:

Do we know for sure he was left in a car? It seems like a possibility. But could there be other scenarios?

I used to teach computer classes in several preschools. I can possibly explain all the transportation, because one of the schools where I taught was similar. They were a full daycare. They had 2 locations. But they were also a before and after care center for kids who go to "big" school. So, kids come at say 6am. Then, the van woukd go to each center, pick up the "school" kids and drive them to all the schools they go to. And they had a whole lot of kids that did this! I'm thinking that was the situation. I know it doesn't explain what happened to him, but maybe why all the moving about. That person (at my school) was called the van driver. It was mostly what she did.

No, you're right. I have no idea. But what did happen to him, they are stating there's no apparent trauma to his body. This is a bizarre case, I guess we won't know until they finish the autopsy. So sad though. :(

[h=3]"He had wings and a halo in my dream:" Little girl who found body of 5-year-old speaks out[/h]
MOBILE, AL (WALA) - With permission from her parents, one of the girls who found 5-year-old Kamden Johnson's body is speaking out to FOX10 News. She wants to share a powerful message about the little boy she never knew, but who affected her more than she could ever imagine.
11-year-old Alexanderia Garmon was walking home from her bus stop with a group of friends when she noticed a boy lying near bushes in front of a home off Demetropolis Road. She tells us she now feels like she has new friend in the form of an angel.

"I keep thinking about it. When I woke up, I thought I saw him," said Garmon. "He had a wings and halo in my dream."
Garmon said she was traumatized by the experience, but knew she had to do something.
"My quick thinking was 'oh my gosh', this little boy is not breathing! I need to run to my nanny's house and get my grandma and call the police," said Garmon.

What a heartbreaking and horrendous experience for her I hope she gets counselling if she needs it.
Oh she needs it! I certainly would! 11 years old. Inconceivable! !!

Sweet, sweet child. You did a good job. Very good thinking and it is amazing that you wanted to help in a world where many people only worry about themselves. Great things are ahead for you, little one.

Maybe the car he was in had on child safety locks? This is a religious based daycare. There is also a post on FB saying this woman had left a child in a vehicle before. I've seen from an official news site that there was no visible trauma. Which again makes me question a hot car. I remember my grandmother telling me about a little boy ripping all of his hair out when left in a hot car. They fight not to die and typically do a lot of damage to themselves

This is just one example of what happens when there are no regulations.

Yes!

People think it's safer, because it's church run. The church run day cares here are the worst. We see a lot of cases at the advocacy center here, for crimes against children at these centers. The staff is often under-qualified or have criminal histories, sometimes even current drug addictions. But they will accept the lower pay and large class size. There are often too many children in the classes, the buildings are not child safe, etc. Church daycares are often the least expensive. Parents who need lower costs of daycare send their children thinking they will be safe. It's horrible.

ETA: I'm not saying they are all bad. There are wonderful church run daycares, and bad regulated daycares. Being able to exempt themselves makes it ripe for these abuses, though.

I live in AL. A bill passed the house but was dropped in the senate to require licensing of these Day cares. They need to require ALL daycares to be licensed and the workers to pass background checks.

That said, my DD attended a wonderful church run day care in the early 90s.
