Does RS's attorney approve of discussing him on a public forum? Remember, that anything said can be used against him and police do monitor the internet. They said so themselves. You just said you are a confidante, sort of like a psychologist.........just saying.

I believe there are both attorneys and the HWPD who monitor this web page, and no, I am not a psychologist in any way, shape, form or fashion.
Those that need to know who I am, already know and approve.

Bouncing off of your post.

Honest question: If LE and attorneys monitor this forum, why would they do that? Members are supposed to post statements and back them up with links from MSM. I would think LE and atty. would already have all that info. I cannot imagine they are interested in our :moo:

A public forum seems like it is hearsay.

IMO-they are in hopes that someone will "slip" up and say something they can use either for or against the case or person/persons involved in the case. Which indeed I agree is a bunch of :moo:

After more than five months of near silence, investigators in the Karen Shahan murder case made a bold move Jan. 1 when they arrested her husband, Richard Shahan, at the Nashville International Airport.

Richard Shahan, former children and families pastor of First Baptist Church, Birmingham, was attempting to board a flight to Frankfurt, Germany, reportedly on his way to work with Bible Mission International (BMI) for three years.

The Alabama Baptist and other news sources had previously reported Richard Shahan’s plans for departing the country to develop teaching materials and discipleship resources through BMI to be distributed throughout former Soviet countries.

I really do not understand why people murder their spouses. They fear divorce will ruin their reputation for whatever reason, but they don't think MURDER will ruin it. I don't get it. Sorry for the children of Karen and Richard.

I agree... Murder over divorce is unimaginable IMO...

But... This murder seemed like one of rage... Given the few reports we have read...

Yes it does. I'm remembering Michelle Young's brutal murder.

Do we know if Karen accompanied her husband on his two Church trips to Kazahktan in the last year and if she would have been going with him this year as well?

The May 2013 church newsletter talks about it and about welcoming a visitor to the church on May 22, the person with whom he is doing some translating and other work with.

http://fbcbirmingham.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/MAY-NEWSLETTER.pdf

Maybe Hobby Lobby gives people time-off for ministerial trips?
It does say in the May 2013 church newsletter that Richard plans to return to Kazakhstan in the Fall of 2013.

I am thinking that a case could be made that he wasn't fleeing, just as his attorneys contend, HOWEVER, I am also thinking that a case could be made for premeditation of the murder with an escape plan in place prior to the murder.

By the way, while the url to the newsletter says 2012, the newsletter itself is dated May 2013.

Just some idle thoughts.

I agree that premeditation is a consideration, too...

Yes, i.b.nora, you're indeed correct regarding the NEWSLETTER being mislabeled in the link, as well as in the title of the PDF download of the NEWSLETTER, both have it mislabeled as 2012...but on further looking at the actual newsletter(via the saved PDF file I downloaded several months ago), it most certainly is in FACT the newsletter from 2013.. The two screen caps I've attached below support/confirm the correct year is 2013..

In the first screen cap you can see the actual printed date in the top left hand corner, is in fact May 2013{And below that date is the brief article by Richard Shahan speaking of his interpreter, as well as his mission trips from the previous year(2012) and also mentioning his upcoming Fall(2013) return trip overseas as well}..

And then in the second screen cap that immediately follows the first, there is IMO, concrete confirmation on the year being 2013 rather than 2012.. As you'll see in the screen cap there is a brief article speaking about crafts in which you can see that they are referencing BACK TO January 2013.. This IMO, is what confirmed for me that the newsletter was mislabeled as 2012, and that the correct date/year of the newsletter is indeed MAY 2013..

HTH:)

Thank you SmoothOp for posting the newsletter screen caps here. Its so much easier than having to track back all the time to the newsletter itself.

His attorney, John Lentine, wants his client back in Alabama. Lentine wants a court hearing to set bond for Shahan so he could be out of jail until trial.

He doesn’t sound like a good candidate for bail to me.

No job in AL
No home in AL
Children both live out of state
Has already attempted to leave the country for employment elsewhere while under suspicion of murder

Do they let alleged murderers just roam the streets and collect unemployment benefits for a year or so until their trial? I can’t imagine that BMI or a US church will be re-hiring an alleged murderer to work with their children. I guess maybe his friends may step up to the mark to support and house him. Is that enough to be released on bail? ... along with any bail $ of course.

I agree that he does not seem like a good candidate for bail... For the reasons you posted above...

I also wonder if he might be a danger to himself... At this point... and should be monitored closely...
