Former Homewood pastor accused of murder allowed to leave house arrest for brief period
By WIAT Staff Published: November 19, 2014, 4:02 pm

Richard Shahan will get to leave for one hour to get personal items out of a storage pod. Shahan put personal items in the storage pod before his arrest in January.

Wonder why his mother cannot retrieve these things? I'd be VERY curious to see exactly what he's retrieving.......

Yes, I would be also verrry interested in what he stored there! All what he wanted to deliver to UK after his emigration? His "household"? Had this storage pod been searched re the murder weapon??
I think, his poor mother is min. 75 yo and one doesn't expect, that she would retrieve the certain things.

Just for the record, the picture in the article of November 19th is a "file picture" from the court activities in February 2014 after the Prosecution made their statement concerning the alleged "motive" of the murder.
Thank you for the info, From Germany

Let's just hope and pray that the LE were allowed to pick up ALL the FORENSIC evidence before all of those other things were placed in that pod. Still waiting for the date of this trial...it feels like a cloud over my head.

UPDATE: Former Homewood pastor pleads not guilty in death of his wife

Richard Shahan appeared in court for pretrial

"“All we've asked is that the prosecution make an admission to court about which theory that they're operating under,” Lentine explained. “Apparently they chose not to answer that question today,”

Judge Petro will address this motion and others in the next hearing scheduled for May 7. She did, however rule of two motions in court Monday: a request to extend pretrial motions and a request from the State to preserve evidence."

"The judge granted a routine motion by Shahan's attorneys to have prosecutors preserve evidence in the case.

But the judge did not rule on other motions, including one in which defense attorneys are asking prosecutors to say whether they believe anyone else may have been complicit in his wife's death. Prosecutors did not say or chose not to answer that question at today's hearing, said John Lentine, one of the attorneys representing Shahan.

The judge also gave prosecutors 90 days to begin providing defense attorneys with more of the evidence collected so far in the case. The state has already produced evidence, but not everything the defense attorneys expect they would have in their possession, defense attorneys said."

If he is guilty,as I suspect he is, I hope he gets a lot of time behind bars, like from now on.
So sick of men killing their wives !!!!!!!!!! More sick of it because of another love affair !!!!!!!!!!!! More disgusted by him hiding behind his pulpit to appear what he is not !!!!!!!!!!

To SCHMAE - this case/accused killer bothers me alot :tantrum: - because of the relationship I had with R & K years ago. I won't rest until the verdict is pronounced. My heart goes out to his family and his own children and then to the thousands of children in his ministry throughout the years. I'm just stunned in so many ways.

Petro ruled on two pre-trial motions in the hearing, one granting a routine preservation of evidence and the other allowing prosecutors 90 days to begin providing defense attorneys with more of the collected evidence for the case. Petro will address the other five motions in the next hearing scheduled for May 7. Until then Shahan will remain under house arrest. - See more at: http://www.thealabamabaptist.org/pr...d_art=33437&pricat_art=1#sthash.VXg69uzk.dpuf

The 54-year-old children’s minister appeared before Jefferson County Judge Laura Petro and entered a “not guilty” plea to the charges that he stabbed his wife and cut her throat. Judge Petro also heard motions from both the prosecution and defense. Shahan’s defense attorney, John Lentine, filed a motion asking for clarification of the indictment against his client and whether the prosecution will argue that Shahan did not act alone in the murder. The prosecution did not answer this motion.

"He is a master when it comes to children's programs," Carter said, pointing to a successful Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church that Shahan led just days prior to his wife's murder.
...
Shahan wrote the curriculum, based on the Book of Daniel, and designed the set and costumes.

"Karen was so supportive of Richard in his ministry," Carter added.
