An Alabama teenager has been indicted on a capital murder charge in the hanging death of his 9-year-old half-sister

Salers isn't eligible for the death penalty because he was only 14 at the time of the girl's death last year.

A year later, an indictment is made. Crimes where the a child is killed and blood or half blood relative is the perpetrator is really disturbing, especially if he or she is about the same age, give or take a few years.

The Alabama 15-year-old boy accused of hanging his 9-year-old half-sister will be tried as an adult.
St. Clair County District Attorney Richard Minor said his request to have the Ragland, Alabama teen tried as an adult was granted Wednesday.

John Dillon Salers, 18, pleaded guilty to murder on Tuesday in the death of his half sister Katelynn Arnold
Judge has sentenced Salers to 20 years in prison, court documents said
Salers was 14 when Katelynn was found hanging in a hardwood outside the home they shared with relatives in Ragland
He was initially charged as an adult with capital murder but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge

Weathington asked Salers if he was pleading guilty because, in fact, he was guilty.

“I’m just ready to get it all over with, judge,” Salers said.

“Does that mean you’re guilty?”

“Yes, judge.”

In accordance with a plea agreement reached with state prosecutors, a capital murder charge against Salers was dropped, and he pleaded guilty to simple murder, a Class A felony.
