*Trial continues with Jury Selection (Day 2) or Trial with Opening Statements (Day 1) (@ 10am CT) – AL – Kathleen Dawn “Kat” West (42) (Jan. 12, 2018, Calera) – *William Jeffrey West (44/now 46) (husband) arrested (2/22/18), indicted (3/7/18) & arraigned (4/9/18) with murder. Held on $500K bond. Plead not guilty. Bond reduction denied.

11/13/20 Update: State authorities said Friday they will enter new information as evidence in the case (text message arguments between Kathleen & husband). Jury selection will begin Monday, 11/16/20, with opening statements slated for Tuesday.
11/13/20 Update 2: Attorney John Robbins stated in court documents filed Sunday (11/15/20) that not only is there no evidence of an argument on the night Kat West died, evidence shows the two had “an enjoyable date” that same night. The two that night "went home where the defendant took pictures of his wife in a sexy bra and panties and six-inch heels,” On Friday (11/13/20), Shelby County Assistant District Attorney Daniel McBrayer said in court filings prosecutors will offer as evidence of intent & motive for the murder charge numerous text messages between Jeff West & his wife “evidencing frequent arguments between the two.”Robbins wrote. Also on Sunday, Robbins asked for extensive voir dire – the questioning of potential jurors to determine their suitability to serve on a jury – to include questioning to determine whether any of the potential jurors are members of social media groups launched to discuss the death of Kat West. According to the request, there are at least two groups on Facebook. The defense attorney also wants jurors questioned as to whether they were subscribers to OnlyFans.com or were Instagram friends with “meowmeowkittenchow75.” If so, he said, they should be prohibited from serving on the jury. West may be entitled to a change of venue if the court determines that because of pretrial publicity a fair & impartial jury cannot be seated, Robbins said.

Kat West’s death was not caused by a fall, prosecutor says

"A young woman who called 911 on the Saturday morning said she discovered the lifeless, partially-nude body of a 42-year-old Calera wife and mother

"She told the dispatcher she could see a man inside the victim’s house, repeatedly pacing back and forth in front of the window."


“Why hasn’t he called this in?” the prosecutor quoted the witness saying to the 911 dispatcher. “He would later say that he was sleeping.”

Husband is caught in a lie right off the bat. The witness saw the husband inside the West home pacing in front of the window. He wasn't calling 911.

• His fingerprints were on the absynthe bottle
  
• Kat's blood was found on the same bottle
• Kat was killed when her head was struck from the back with the bottle

Husband is trying to say she died from falling down, but prosecution also has home security system records of when the doors of the house were opened.

Well, she was found deceased out in the street, having been hit in the head with the absynthe bottle. Did she happen to lay the bottle on the street, then jump up and land on it with her head? The trampoline was nowhere nearby. What could she have possibly used in the middle of the street to launch herself into the air to land on the bottle with enough force to cause a fatal head wound?

Was he trying to figure out how she killed herself while he was pacing around in the living room, looking out the window at her dead body instead of calling 911? Does he have some form of mental telepathy that told him from that distance that she was dead? Is that why he didn't call 911? Why did he feel the need to lie about that, telling LE he was asleep when the neighbors discovered Kat lying dead in the street?

Also, his fingerprints and her blood on the absinthe bottle. The article linked above also mentions there's LE bodycam video of an officer telling him his wife was deceased. Husband showed no emotion.

Calera police evidence technician (no name given). He photographed West’s home. Jurors shown photos of inside the house. The attorneys argued over showing text messages between Kat & Jeff from the weeks & days before Kat's death. The texts show the couple arguing & show nude photos Kat sent of herself to her husband. The Judge Bill Bostick decided to allow the photos to be submitted as evidence & presented to the jury. Will be shown tomorrow. Today ended just after 4pm because of sewage issues in the courthouse. The judge wants this trial to come to an end on Friday, which could mean a long day tomorrow. Trial continues on 11/19/20.
