GUILTY AL - Kathleen "Kat" West, 42, murdered, Calera, 13 Jan 2018 *husband arrested*

That one's a mystery, and who would take the time to do that, because someone did, strange and erie. One of the bigger red flags imo is LE with no statement as of yet. The husband with his job, surely has a working relationship with the town police, and it would have been my guess that him serving military, he would have been heralded around the police brotherhood. Too much time for LE not to make a statement. Almost reeks of a cover up but I'll patiently wait for the updates.

I've been a trial watcher since Betty Broderick's first trial. I don't recall any situation like this where there were no leaks from the PD or the DA's office. I've heard several theories from locals but they're just theories and rumors and so I don't know if we're allowed to discuss those here.

very good insight flgrl017, Who would stage her across the street from her home...also maybe to shame her leaving her without cloths
I'm thinking along those lines too. Maybe to embarrass her or send a message.

If someone had dumped her would the bottle have been carefully placed on the phone?

Agree, it's weird. Maybe there is an underlying meaning that makes sense to somebody. Also weird to dump a body in a residential neighborhood. It's Alabama. There are a lot of wooded areas around. They wanted her to be found.

Unless it was a heat of the moment thing and they freaked after it happened. In those times people don’t always think to hide a body.

I just caught up with this thread, but this is an interesting point. IMO either it was heat of the moment or someone wanted her found - esp since she was nude. No blood trail, no noise noticed by neighbors. She knew her assailant. Body position is interesting. Is it possible she was fooling around with the neighbor who's yard she was found in?

Hoping the police make some headway on finding whoever did this.

Have they revealed the position of the body?

Someone upthread posted that she was found with her head in the street and body in the neighbor's yard, as if she were heading home, not running away from it. Not sure where they got that info, otherwise I would link it, sorry!

Did anyone else just see the Ashleigh Banfield report?

The police didn't go to the liquor store for 2 weeks. The video had been recorded over by then. They got their copy of the video from Inside Edition. Why didn't the liquor store save that video? Knowing she had been there and that the video could help.

I was talking to someone today from Calera and she said she thinks the police are in over their head.

Not everyone watches crime shows like we do, so the liquor store may not have realized how important the video is. Idk, that's just a guess.

Whoa. I missed that. Didn’t the liquor store realize that it was important video if “Inside Edition” wanted a copy? I have a wonder that the West’s were regulars. My husband knows a guy who works in a liquor store and they absolutely have regular customers and get to know them. Not making a judgment about the West, but I think they liked to party JMO and the liquor store probably knew them well.

There was a photo posted by a neighbor in the facebook group of a blood spot in the road. I think they are just using deductive reasoning because the guy that found her said she was face down, half body in the street and half in the yard with a head wound.

Yes agree, someone wanted her to be found and the placing of the bottle on the cell phone appears to be a subliminal message IMO. Doing something this bold in the heat of the moment I wonder if the suspect took the time to make sure their fingerprints were wiped clean on the bottle. And regarding more evidence, the rest of her clothes, where would they be on a cold night, in someone's vehicle, at the neighbors, or at home.

It looks like a newly constructed development to me. Little to no landscaping in yet.

I have caught pieces of this story and read a few posts here, but I would want to know if her clothes she had on in the surveillance video have been located. That would tell us where she got undressed. If they havent been located, to me that would be a big clue that she had been somewhere else, and perhaps dropped off from a car. Its even possible that the death was accidental and whoever was there just panicked and dumped her off there.

Excellent point! I had not even thought about that.

There’s a ton in Bama. Poor economic growths in a lot of counties have lead to rapid growth of certain areas. Leading to a ton of new build neighborhoods in areas that have decent jobs available.

I wonder if she was just drunk and slipped on ice and hit her head, maybe it wasn't murder. There looks to be snow in pictures. There is a lot of blood on the street and head wounds bleed a lot. In her drunken head injured state she could have taken off her clothes and put the bottle there on her cell phone. I guess we need to know more about where her clothes were found ect.

I don't think we could absolutely rule it out at this time.

In my mind accident isn't ruled out, but I lean towards foul play. I just don't see an accident if the cell phone and bottle were played like the eye witness described.

Wouldn't the medical examiner know by now if it was an accident? I know they can tell a lot by the head wound and other wounds on the body. I'm pretty sure they can tell if someone fell on concrete or was hit in the head with a blunt object. Can anyone confirm this?
