GUILTY AL - Kathleen "Kat" West, 42, murdered, Calera, 13 Jan 2018 *husband arrested*

I'm beginning to wonder if the prosecutor plans to "run out the clock" so to speak. Is he just going to hold him without going to trial until they have to let him go? Have seen something similar happen with cases in some areas. Defendants have a right to a speedy trial and if that time expires and the defendant's attorney argues his case, the charges are dropped.

That would be horrifying! He left his dying wife alone and naked in the dark street. I can't imagine someone getting away with this, but then again, I can.

Past the 2yr anniversary, RIP Kat, I want to hear evidence, and throw the book at the greaseball husband!

Bump!

RIP Kat West. You deserve justice for your brutal, senseless murder.

And the last hearing I have for him is 3/4/19....

And I've checked the court site thru 1/21/20 and nothing yet...

Something doesn't seem right about this case, but ICBW. Maybe its time to contact local news media and see if they've heard anything.

Can’t he request a speedy trial?

Can’t he request a speedy trial?

The US Constitution guarantees everyone a right to a speedy trial, so you don't have to ask for it. IANAL, but a defendant, on advice of their attorney, can ask to waive their right to a speedy trial. Sometimes this is requested by a defendant if their attorney needs time to bring charges, prepare for the trial, review all the evidence, request discovery from the prosecution, etc. If the defense attorney feels they need to have a certain amount of pre-trial hearings to prepare, they will ask for a waiver of right to speedy trial. The judge usually sets a time limit to review the new deadline - they don't allow trials to be delayed forever.

Here's a some links that explain it

Thanks verymuch Betty P the events after her murder might be more twisted and rotten than the hubby's story about the night Kat died. If there is an end to the case it might be even more odd if that's possible. May she rest in peace, no one deserves this , very sad for the daughter MOO

Well, we don't know yet. It could be they're working to bring it to trial, but since none of the records or anything much is made public, we don't know.

Maybe the best option is to go to local news media to see if they can make some calls.

Might help the local media look into what is going on... You'd think the families in the neighborhood this family lived in would be wondering.. Thank you

Thank you for the update Betty P. Wish they had at least given a date....

I'm not very savvy on finding court dates but has anyone checked to see if there is anything upcoming on this? I feel they are dragging this out and it will quietly go away. Is that possible?

This is infuriating. Does this woman have no one in her corner? Just left to die naked in the street, and...nothing??

Yes, it has been awhile since the last hearing - 3/4/19!! I have him on my list of to look.up.every.day & still nothing has come up for him.

Shelby county is notoriously slow. I wouldn’t worry.
