ATLANTA — It's been more than one week and a half since 46-year-old Lilliam Max was last seen.

Her loved ones say she left Birmingham on a Greyhound bus headed for Atlanta but, as of Friday, investigators are not sure where she got off.

Her friend of nine years, Cristobal Contreras, said he last saw Max on May 1 when she asked to borrow money for her upcoming quick trip to Atlanta. He gave her $500.

I’m curious about taking Greyhound versus driving.
From Cullman it’s probably a three hour drive.
$500 is expensive for a one day trip.

My neighbor tried the Greyhound on a bus trip back to her home state to see how it ranked as opposed to driving. She said never again. Extremely sketchy.

Missing Cullman County salon owner hasn't been seen for two weeks

May 17
Lilliam Max went missing on May 2 after boarding a bus to Atlanta for an immigration hearing.
LE stated they are unable to confirm if she got off the bus in Atlanta.
The last time contact with phone (assume LE means pinged) was made was about the time she made it to the bus station. It’s unclear if her phone was turned off, dead, etc.
One friend believed she made it to her immigration hearing, everything went fine, then she visited Plaza Fiesta. Upon heading back to AL, something happened.

The fare on Greyhound from Birmingham to Atlanta is $32 to $78 one way. The article says her friend gave her $500. The fare would have been less than $100 if she booked economy. Her friend might have given her extra for hotel etc, but it is still much more than the trip would have cost.

I could see wanting to take that much money. The bus fare could easily go up to $200 once taxes and fees are added to the cost of the ticket. Then there is a room. $100-$200 depending on where she stayed. One night or two? Then there are meals to be purchased. It adds up.

It sounds like the money was for more than just paying for the bus.
Perhaps for a hotel, food etc. Did she say how long the trip was supposed to be for ?

Re immigration. Is it possible she was taken into detention or thought she might be so has gone into hiding.

Search continues for missing Cullman woman

May 18
A local woman missing since May 2 may no longer be in the Cullman area, police believe as they enter the third week of the search for 47 year-old Lilliam Lissett Max.

“We know that she got on a bus in Birmingham on the night of May 2. It was believed that she was going to Atlanta for a legal hearing,” said Cullman Police Lt. Jody Martin, who is leading the investigation, on Tuesday.

“It’s still an active investigation. We have been in communication with company officials at Greyhound to determine her likely departure and arrival schedule on the bus, and we have also been working with other law enforcement agencies to determine where she may be currently.”

Cullman salon owner believed to have gone missing may have skipped town, police say

Whoa! Didn’t see this coming!

After investigating the whereabouts of a Cullman woman who had been reported missing several weeks ago, Cullman police now believe she was not missing, but simply left town, leaving many questions–including what her real name was–unanswered.

According to Lt. Jody Martin of the Cullman Police Department, “Max” had told friends and patrons of her salon prior to her disappearance that she was going to Atlanta May 3 for a naturalization or immigration hearing. “Max” had claimed she was a legal resident of the U.S. who was originally from Mexico.

According to an immigration officer, there was no known scheduled appointment or hearing for “Lilliam Max.” Police now believe that may not be her actual name. Police also suspect “Max” was not a legal U.S. resident and that she was actually from Honduras, not Mexico like she had previously claimed.

E believes “Max” is not her real name.
•suspect “Max” was not a legal U.S. resident and that she was actually from Honduras, not Mexico
•her phone stopped functioning the same time she arrived at the bus terminal
• The destination of the bus “Max” boarded at 10:10 p.m. is unknown, and Greyhound did not provide information concerning the tickets “Max” had bought.
•reports that Max allegedly owed money to several people, had not paid utility bills, was behind on her business rent and had borrowed money from a friend shortly before disappearing.
•Upon searching Max’s salon and residence, police found some clothing and salon equipment, but her State of Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering certificate was missing from its frame.

“Due to inaccurate information received during the investigation, it is now my belief that the person reported missing and known as Lilliam Max here in Cullman, Alabama left of her own free will and departed for somewhere other than Atlanta, Georgia based on the schedule for departures at the Birmingham, Alabama bus station,” Martin said in a statement to CBS 42. “Her current whereabouts are unknown and her information will remain entered as a missing person until she is located and welfare checked.”

I guessed as much.

Poor lady, she seemed so happy in the pic plus had a seemingly good business and probably a happy life.
But something scared her enough for her to panic and leave her home, business and friends and family if any.

Though we don't know for sure that someone didn't do something to her.

So she was using a fake name all this time?
