Mahogany Jackson, Birmingham woman who told family she was being held hostage, found shot to death

The discovery was made at 2:19 a.m. Monday on a roadside at 17th Street S.W. and Laurel Avenue.

A young woman reported missing Sunday after messaging her family for help has been found dead on a southwest Birmingham roadside, police and family said.

“Just after 2 a.m., South Precinct officers received a call of a deceased person," said Sgt. Laquitta Wade, with the Birmingham Police Department. "When officers arrived on the scene, they observed an adult female lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.”

According to social media posts made by her mother, Jackson had texted her family before 8 a.m. on Sunday morning asking for help, saying she had been kidnapped, and even sent a pin of her location. Police aren't confirming at this point whether they think she was killed where her body was found or at another location.

“Right now, we don't have any information of neighbors hearing any gunshots. So, right now, we're unsure if it occurred here. We do not have any reports of unknown vehicles coming through the area, but we will definitely check for cameras in the area," Wade said.

Brandon Pope, 24, Francis Harris, 25, and Jeremiah McDowell, 18, are charged with capital murder during a first-degree kidnapping and capital murder during first-degree sodomy.

Giovannie Clapp, 23, and Blair Green, 25, are charged with felony murder- the underlying felony being kidnapping or sodomy- as well as first-degree kidnapping and first-degree sodomy.

Teja Lewis, 26, is charged with felony murder.

Si’Niya McCall, 23, is charged with felony murder, first-degree kidnapping and first degree sodomy.

Lewis, McCall, and Clapp are also charged with second-degree assault for pistol-whipping Jackson.

Sounds like the one female arrested and charged with felony murder, Teja Lewis, had an ongoing dispute with Mahogany over something Lewis said the victim had stolen from her apartment. Guess Lewis decided to have her lowlife male acquaintances brutalize the victim (and record the assault) until…what, she confessed? Or was the plan always to have them SA and murder Mahogany?

While the officer did not specify how many suspects have been taken into custody, a local news outlet AL.com reported that three women and three men were detained in connection with the case.
