Walker County has a HUGE drug problem. HUGE. I'm not saying NH was into drugs, but it is inevitable that lots of people around him do.

Another scenario is that someone had a lot to lose if NH was to blow their cover on a more-than-friends relationship, iykwim.

Lastly, word on the street is that the POI is violent and NH could have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'll be interested in the COD to see if it's a simple one shot or a violent crime of passion.

ETA: The fact that NH and AR are FB friends tells a part of the story.

Yea, I agree that the fact that they were friends indicates a connection. They both had a little over 1,000 friends, though. (Geez, so many!) I couldn't help but assume this had to do with certain preferences.. so I do know what you mean. Whether a secret relationship or just a general dislike (I'm thinking hate crime) but I have nothing but speculation for that. The suspect definitely seems to have a bad rep.

I feel so bad for Nick & his family I can't imagine having an opportunity to call for help only to be killed after. Ugh, so tragic

I don't see anything on social media that confirms that he is gay. But I wouldn't be surprised either. This is terribly sad. This kid was definitely one of the 'youngest' 19s I've seen on WS: he looked very young, his FB could easily be the FB of someone 5 years younger, etc. I can't really imagine this kid hurting a fly from what I see on SM. Will be interested in motive. RIP Nicholas. May his family find peace in swift justice.

"Reese, who was arrested Tuesday morning on Jackson Road between Pinson and Morris, was charged with attempted murder in Jefferson County in 2013 after he allegedly hit a man over the head with a gun and tried to shoot him, according to court records. He was later released on $50,000 bond and the case has not yet gone to trial."

Word on the street is no. I think there will be more arrests. I can't post any links because it's FB, but there are other names associated with the crime and that it was most likely a "hit."

Nicholas looks like such a kind, gentle, caring soul. I can't imagine the pain his mother and family are feeling. God Bless his family. RIP sweet one.

I did as well

Alabama is extremely unfriendly to gay people and violence against us is considered the norm

It could have been a hate crime or the killer could've been trying to cover up a relationship that would not have been accepted in backwoods 'Bama

If you look at the pictures in his facebook profile you will see that Hawkins was at least an ally of LGBT people if not gay himself

Going to try to be careful here, but I believe we may come to find this involves more than one person. The gay angle is an astute one, if this were a random killing, but I think it actually involves a girl who was friends with Nick, BC, and her babydaddy DCW (he goes by his son's name on Facebook), who is friends with Reese. This individual has gang affiliations which may be where the drug talk is coming in, but I really think it has more to do with jealousy or revenge. At any rate, there is a screenshot of a message DCW sent someone about wanting Nick dead. I can't get into further details without violating TOS but it is all there if you follow the crumbs starting at the POI's timeline image comments.

May justice be swift for Nick, wherever it ends up landing.
