News update from a couple hours ago. The most intriguing thing is that we now have a reason why no surveillance video has been released of these two men. That’s because law enforcement can’t find them on it.

This description apparently came from her friend, but we don’t know if other people have corroborated it or not.

Regardless, the lack of video is intriguing.

BPD: Surveillance video shows Paighton Houston leaving bar alone

I have wondered since the first report that the only one person who saw her leave with “two large black men” was her friend at the bar, if that is the same friend who received the text that she was in trouble. Also, was the argument at the bar with that friend?
When did the friend leave the bar?
Surely LE is verifying everything, as sometimes an alleged friend can be more dangerous than a stranger.

Yeah, I’m sure law enforcement has most of the answers to these questions.

We’re dealing with conflicting reports, rumors, an incomplete timeline, and very few verified facts.

Law enforcement doesn’t owe us anything, but I’d take just about any new information right about now.

Super frustrating.

The Heidi Broussard case proved that!!

Yes to the above.

And if I understand correctly, PH left her car at the 'friend's' place and rode with her to the bar.

Just another thing that makes me look sideways....

B’ham Police: Surveillance video in Paighton Houston case does not show 2 men she reportedly left with

Updated December 31 at 4:57 PM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Sergeant Johnny Williams with the Birmingham Police Department said investigators have reviewed surveillance video from a bar where Paighton Houston was last seen and have not found anyone matching the description of the two men she is believed to have left with. bbm

Officers believe Houston willingly left the Tin Roof bar with two heavy set black men on Friday, December 20, based on information provided in the missing persons report.

Houston’s family said she was at the bar that night with friends from work. One of those friends contacted Houston’s family and told them she left the bar with the two men and appeared to do so willing, according to Houston’s brother, Evan.

The friend also shared a text message she said she received from Houston that said, “IDK who I am with so if I call please answer. I feel in trouble.”

After hearing from the friend, Houston’s brother and father went straight to police and filed the report.

In an email, Williams wrote, “A number of persons have been interviewed at this time, but no major leads have developed from that information.” He said officers are still trying to track down the two men and are continuing to ask the public for help.

ETA: might have to look for the original story and see what if anything deleted after B'ham statement that bar surveillance video does not depict anyone matching description of 2 black men PH was allegedly seen leaving with.

The video at this link is definitely different than the original video at the other link with the headline of PH seen leaving alone. I'm very curious if there was something specific that LE possibly asked for the media to react, and that is why it was removed.

The way this is worded just seems so off........ "if I call answer, I don't know these people and I feel in trouble."

Every single thing points back to that one friend.
Seems like she has a lot of explaining to do.

BBM:

Agree totally with your perspective on the relaspse stated in 3. I have had friends kids struggle with heroin addiction for years. They do fine for a long period of time and then the spiral out of control starts. The addict will lie, steal, disappear, etc...until they hit rock bottom. The cycle starts over.

@WildcatRunner I am asking exactly that. I have
read it here.

Do you we know how long Paighton has been sober? Was this her first holiday season and was it normal for her to go to a neighborhood bar? Trying to get some sort of idea about her. Thanks.

PH's recovery story was featured in the Center's 2018 year end report. 2019 could very well have been her first if not second holiday season post recovery. I think her structured contact or checking in with her mom multiple times a day represent to me that PH needs a lifeline and somebody to be accountable to. I think she needs constant reminding that she's worthy of healing and sobriety.

The quotes attributed to PH by the Recovery Center tell me she goes very dark when using. I really hope she's safe and straight:

"Drugs made me believe that I was worthless and unworthy, but Anna and Christ Health Center showed me what mercy and grace are all about."

“I was in a very bad place and had long since lost hope that I was worthy of love or ‘healing,’” Paighton remembers. “But Anna proved me wrong. She invested time with me and showed me over and over that she cared — I truly believe that God’s kindness through this wonderful stranger saved my life.”

Something to add, just as more information: in the article about Paighton’s recovery, they mention she almost died from a severe case of endocarditis and sepsis - which means to me she was an IV heroin user.

Endocarditis occurs with IV drug use, not snorting or smoking of drugs. Bacteria such as staph is introduced to the bloodstream via needle use, and then infects the heart. The sepsis matches this as well. Which means PH was deep in it during her addiction, poor girl.

She is a miracle, the fact she survived and seemed to be thriving, by all accounts. I truly hope she is alive.

Thanks @Beth11311 - if your condition becomes so severe that you're near death from endocarditis and sepsis do your organs remain compromised and do you ever really heal? I hope she remains a fighter for many decades to come.

I know that with severe endocarditis sometimes valve replacements of the heart become necessary, I’m not sure if she had any surgery. I’m not entirely sure if the heart becomes weakened or if other organs compromised by sepsis are permanently damaged, but I think it’s absolutely possible depending on the case and severity. Sepsis alone can obviously be very fatal.

Beth...thanks for posting this. It really is amazing that she made it through this.
Paighton is no wallflower!

What a mess, dang. I've not posted much, but have read it all.

So she left the bar with two big black men and LE can't find them on the bar video. Well, maybe they weren't actually 'in' the bar, maybe she met them around the corner, or in a parking lot close by. But then, how would the friend know what they looked like? Unless she followed her out.

So for me, it almost stands to reason, the friend implies that she actually SAW her walk out the bar door with these black men, in which case, I would surmise, the friend has some 'splainin to do.

Poof, she's gone. And LE calls it a 'strange case'. What?

I'm not sure I've ever read such a crazy and convoluted story in my 60 years.

Wow!

No bank card activity. She's gone.

It seems that the question is : who (excluding work friends) last saw her, where and when. If it was the pub, there must be footage telling us the time that she left. There must be CCTV of the streets in the area where she was headed. Where was she headed when she left - a party, home, food?

The problem is that one person is telling a story that implies victim confusion and abduction, and facts demonstrate that this story is false. Chances are that the person telling the story is responsible for her disappearance - maybe.
Police are still trying to locate the 2 men.

Boy do I agree! I don't find myself trusting anything as fact. Even some of the info on MSM concerning LE statements aren't written with direct quotes followed by the "said officer ..." You have to piece it together from another paragraph and still question it's validity. Then you have the family comments, which may be approved by LE for some reason we don't know about? Maybe LE wants the public confused because they think it' will help the case and I can understand that. As for any "facts" gleaned from media? I don't know if this has been a media race for info and that is why it's a mess or what. I can only have faith LE knows what they are doing. But personally, I feel most of the info discussed so far is mute because I can't find one needle in the hay stack of facts. JMO

There is no msm report that there was an argument at the bar or only one person witnessed her leaving with 2 men.

This case could go cold so easily and the public lose total interest. Risky! I feel the frustration the family is going through, I read the brothers post last night. I hope LE is putting the pieces together and I feel so sorry for her loved ones!

Bestill...I feel the same! I love the fact that the sons are taking care of their parents by stepping up to deal with the media. Their words are nothing but positive. Showing no anger towards strangers who post horrid things on social media. These are strong, good hearted people. It just breaks my heart....
