The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office wants the public to be on the lookout for a missing person after his vehicle was found in St. Helena.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday afternoon, deputies responded to a report of a vehicle on Polowana Road that had been abandoned for at least three days. Deputies ran the vehicle’s license plate and discovered the vehicle’s owner, 42-year-old Phillip Rawlings Jr., was reported as a missing person in Montgomery, Alabama on March 31, 2020. In the report, family members said Rawlings has a medical condition that requires attention.

Deputies have been unable to locate Rawlings and continue to search the area for him. He is described as a white male, 5′11″ tall, 150 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch 9-1-1.

'Call home': Parents of missing Montgomery man Phillip Rawlings searching for information

It’s been almost two months since Phillip Rawlings Jr went missing.

“We thought he was just going to the store," Rawlings Sr said. "We checked his room and all the clothes he had with him were gone. He just got in his truck and left."

Rawlings Jr. suffers from bipolar disorder, his father said, and requires daily medication.

The first sign of him came Wednesday when deputies in Beaufort County, South Carolina, found his vehicle abandoned on Polowana Road, St. Helena Island. The vehicle had been there for at least three days.
Rawlings Sr said he's not sure why his son was in South Carolina and has no known connections there. All his credit cards were found inside the truck.

Thursday deputies in South Carolina deployed their blood hound team and aviation unit to search for him, but their efforts were fruitless.

Rawlings Sr. had a simple message for his son.

"Call home."

This part of the article caught my attention. Maybe it’s to tell the reader of when he first learned of his bipolar diagnosis??

Rawlings Jr. was a 1995 Montgomery Academy graduate. He graduated from Davidson College in North Carolina in 1999. Rawlings Jr. later went on to graduate with his medical degree from UAB and ultimately practiced medicine at Providence Hospital in Mobile.

He later moved to Starke, Florida, where he was found in a park by a deputy, Rawlings said.

All his clothes were gone. He wasn't missing. He left. Even a bipolar 42 year old is allowed to take off if he chooses. I think that's why we've seen nothing from the media in Montgomery. MOO

Possibly his vehicle being found abandoned is what’s causing the concern??

Yes, I think so. He drove 380 miles, and abandonded his car in a pretty much secluded place.

Mental illness is hard to treat and harder to live with. Many can't. This poor soul was one. Being "crazy" hurts.

He graduated from the same private high school as my daughter. Went on to medical school, had a practice in Mobile, AL. At some point must have had mental issues, got into prescription drugs, lost his practice. Classmates have all lost touch, but his future looked so bright. We may never know what happened.
