Unidentified human remains were discovered in Odenville, a small town in St. Clair County just northeast of Birmingham, prompting a death investigation.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office announced the discovery and subsequent investigation on Sunday afternoon. The Odenville police department is also assisting in the investigation, as is the Jacksonville State University Department of Applied Forensics.

The remains were discovered in the Hunters Crossing area of Odenville, the Sheriff’s office said. It’s unclear when the remains were discovered.

Of the three, Mandi Darden is the only fit, though not a great one. I opened the search up to Birmingham (it being so close by) since a likely scenario could be that the crime was committed/originated in Birmingham, and then the body was transported/dumped in a more remote area--Odenville. Only 19 still though. Will go through some tonight.

According to some newly released evidence the remains found were skeletal, and the body had appeared to have been burned.

Interestingly enough, Felicia Cochran, a missing person from Pell City (only a 14-mile drive from where the remains were discovered), though missing since 1992, was last seen in her car, a gray Nissan Sentra, that was later found burned...Could just be a coincidence, but worth noting.

Russell said the body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for further analysis.

A release from the Sheriff’s Office said the Jacksonville State University Department of Applied Forensics is assisting in the investigation.

“The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and the Odenville Police Department are working diligently to make a positive identification on the victim and follow up on numerous tips and leads,” Walton said.

The chief asked that anyone with any information is urged to call 205-884-3333 or email [email protected].
