Earlier this week, Armstrong said, the Walker County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Doe Network, which is a volunteer service that brings awareness to missing persons, that similarities were discovered with Key and a particular male in the NamUs database.

Walker County Cold Case Investigator Mike Cole, along with Major Crimes Investigator Carl Carpenter, immediately contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for details about the body discovered in 2009. Then, they contacted the family of Key and informed them of the possibility of bringing closure to their family.

Cole and Carpenter met with Key’s son and were able to obtain DNA samples. Those samples will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics and to the NamUs Organization for research.
