An investigation is underway after skeletal remains were found Thursday off a busy western Jefferson County road.

Two women made the discovery about 12:45 p.m. Authorities said the woman were looking through a pile of clothes off Woodward Avenue, between Bessemer Super Highway and Parker Springs Avenue, to see if the clothes belonged to them. They walked a short distance into an overgrown area and looked inside a red camper.

In the camper they spotted what appeared to be human remains and called 911. Police from Birmingham and Brighton responded to the location.

Brighton police Capt. Kenneth Hooten said the remains are human and appear to have been in the camper for a lengthy period of time. It’s too soon to determine the age, race or gender of the remains but it appeared someone had been living in the camper.

Police are awaiting the arrive of the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The bones will be taken there to try to determine an identity and cause and manner of death.

Here's a Streetview of where the clothes were based on the above video: Google Maps

Streetview from the Bessemer Super HWY (AKA 9th Ave) is from Mar 2017 and there were some very dilapidated, abandoned buildings visible there at that time. When you start to walk down Woodward the streetview goes back to 2014 (I guess the google van didn't drive down the street in 2017). The run down buildings are still there but a little different looking from different years.

ETA: I don't see a camper but the tree cover is thick.

Skeletal remains found in Brighton camper identified as 58-year-old man
Authorities have identified skeletal remains found in a camper in Brighton earlier this month.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the remains as Henry Walter Garrett. He was 58.
[...]
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Garrett was last known by family to be alive in February. The camper where he was discovered was vacant and the property on which it is located bellowed to a family member of Garrett.
